I'm not winning - is it my 'comper' username?

I'm starting to wonder if I made a big mistake with my email address - it uses the word 'comper', as does my username on a lot of the regular sites. Could that be why I'm not winning? These drawers are supposed to be random, so it shouldn't matter really should it? But is a 'Compergrl' statistically less likely to win than 'mummyhugs' or something?

Mummyhugs would make me squirm. Would prefer pu$$paws or something. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Nope, I'd say it's just that comping paranoia setting in
If a comp states it will 'randomly select' a winner then we all have to trust the 'automated' system that selects a winner has done exactly that. An automated system will not care what email address people have used.
Wins are far harder to come by nowadays (well, so it seems anyway) so it's more likely down to the cause and effect of increased compers + less competitions around.=^._.^= You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats =^._.^=0 -
All that said, if it's going to play on your mind just set up a new one, and monitor the old one for a month or so to make sure you don't miss anything.0

In my experience over the years, it really doesn't matter. My username on most sites is the same as here, and I've won a fair few things (even on twitter!) - I think people with boring names can be overlooked, when I did a little comp for a company I worked for years ago, we had three correct answers, so did a lucky dip draw for the winner.0

i was once complimented on my 'clever' email addy but I don't think it was why I won they just noticed afterwards - the prize was some fresh salmon and my email was mermaid69@... and I don't use that one any more.
I try to make my comping email look vaguely like a business email address ie 'I only enter the odd competition here and there...' (lol)
Most of the time it is totally random but I would avoid anything even vaguely offensive which may get you deselected if someone takes umbrage.
When I had a blog one of my winners proved to have a very nasty - racist - email addy and it crossed my mind to deselect, I didn't but I wanted to.Shhhhhhh...0 -
It should make no difference but with the fairly regular "I am always winning" media stories and the human element* in almost every winner notification it is more likely, in the very unlikely event it makes a difference, that it wont be doing any good.
People with "comp" type e-mails have had wins but don't know how many times (if any) they have lost out because of it.
Possible conversational direction in the PR dept.
Did you see that person in the paper/on tv the other week they had won hundreds of prizes worth tens of thousands of pounds, wonder if this is them? Greedy they are not winning this one lets choose another now or accidentally make a mistake with their contact details and choose another when they don't respond.
Much less likely conversation in the PR dept
I cannot tell if this e-mail belongs to one of those "professional" compers, lets keep redrawing until we find one that at least looks like it might do.0 -
I thought the same, when I setup my new email address and twitter, I made it "leeritsoncomp" so I could differentiate between my various email accounts. I haven't won anything massive but I have had a few wins so far, 3 of which were through twitter so I think it's just luck of the draw and nothing to do with your username0

About 6/7 years ago, I had 'MSE' after my name on Facebook and did win a few bits here and there. Once a company I'd won with asked me what the 'MSE' stood for, as they had seen it added to quite a few of their entrants usernames, and I just told them that it is short for 'mumsie' because I am a mum and my kids say I am 'mumsie'
They actually believed me too!
I took it off my name and my wins are probably less now BUT I enter less on Facebook now than I did 6/7 years ago and I also think there are more people entering comps via Facebook these days so the chances of winning are less.:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
Imagine if your surname is genuinely Mr or Mrs Comper!
To be honest, I don't think it matters - my first ever email address many moons ago when I first discovered the internet was so, so bad!! "xXxBrunetteGurl4EvaxXx@handbag.com" or something as shocking as that *cringe* and I won the odd thing here and there when I entered competitions (...before I become an "official" comper!)0
