when we payed it was to their london address, and it says their address is in london on their website, regardless of where stock is held, their london locastion is liable.
Get anot experts view on the issues and ask if they were inherent, if they are get them put in a report and send to the address on the website.
Have a read on whatever the act was for consumers at the time.0 -

Everything seems to point to this shady site being based in the U.S. - you've neglected to tell us, but that's where your laptop was shipped from, right? U.S. law probably applies, but you're not going to find out the real identity of whoever runs the site or their real address so you're basically screwed.0 -
Overheating can be caused by the surface or even been used on your knee at times, so little use means nothingDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

The laptop was only ever used on a table or desk0

It's not very clear how 'foreign' this company is and whether UK law is or isn't applicable.
Apple is a 'foreign' company too.
I'd agree with the first part of your statement, my point was that cab would be advising as a uk transaction when this may not be the case. So their advice may be well meaning but incorrect due to the actual mechanics of the transaction. I would also emphasise the 'may' in that sentence, but it sounds as though the vendor thinks their liabilities are limited.
Edit - the site seems to default to uk based and gives a London address. More importantly they take bacs payments through a Santander London branch which indicates they are uk based. Looks as though pursuing them through a complaint to trading standards may be worth doing, they are responsible for supplying something of serviceable quality and it sounds as though there might be a case.0 -
