That is because it is done via a dialler system that masks numbers to look like what appear to be local ones to your area or a mobile number, These will simply be changed to suit and blocking a dialler number makes no odds either as it will just be changed on the next call.

They don't necessarily get the information from the comparison sites or from your insurer at the time, I get these call all the time and I haven't had and accident of any type for the best part of 20 years, they are fishing for business, they've bought peoples contact information, not their insurance history, same applies to those that handle PPI or Bank charges claims.

There are call blockers you can get that will block individual numbers as well as groups (eg withheld numbers/calls from abroad etc)


These work as long as you have caller ID for your landline

I actually received such a call this afternoon ... I asked them which incident this was, then told them that their information was incorrect and no such incident happened.

(The most recent claim associated with me was getting a deep scratch on my driver's door repaired, cause unknown but probably a child's scooter handle. Before that was my motorbike crash in 2008, so any claim from that will be well timed out I guess).

Mine are different as they know the specifics of the accident. The one I referred to at the top even gave me the name of the other driver.
