In many good DIY shops you can buy 'one shot' drain cleaner which is basically concentrated sulphuric acid.

Handle with extreme care, I have never found a drain that this will not unblock.

Beware of sulphur dioxide gas and lots of bubbling up when using.

Wear goggles and other face protection if using this stuff - my friend would have been blinded if she hadn't been wearing glasses. Her face was left scarred.

Forget chemicals, use a drain snake or similar to clear the physical blockage.

Sadly this is what Dyno Rod used and it couldn't (didn't) clear the problem.

I think Brittle Posh mislead us a little in the title "blocked sink"

From the answer the above ground section must be clear, it's the pipe underground that meets the main sewer thats blocked not the sink.

I had an issue many years ago when I installed a waste disposal, it would block underground about once per year. Eventually I dug the collection chamber out as it was a right abortion but, I had a technique that never failed me. At the first connection above ground I inserted a hose from a filled air compessor, plugged the gaps with wet rags and let the lot go at the drain, shifted it every time for zero cost.
Ok if you don't have a compessor that screws it up and I always had the fear I would blow a joint underground but hey ho, if it hadn't worked I would have had to dig out eventually anyway
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Thanks to every one who bothered to reply, having seen the one about the pressure washer, I have now managed to get hold of one, apparently it's a Karcher that is the bottom of their range. Obviously I have to buy an attachment that I have seen on eBay, does anybody know if these are standard fittings,
