Are SAAB cars expensive to run/maintain these days?
I have my eye on a 93turbo in an 05 plate.
I know given the recent history SAAB cars are generally not sought too much these days but in terms of ownership costs are parts difficult to get hold of and how about general servicing and running costs?
Anyone know much about these as I really like the look of this one.....;)
Cheers

They are rebadged disguised Vauxhalls and inherited the reliability as well.
Which is why they are cheap, cheap, cheapI do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Cobblers.
They are re-engineered quite significantly, with numerous differences. Some of the engines are shared, like the Z19DT and DTH, and have some common issues, but they're no less or more reliable than most cars of that age, and they're also nicely equipped, a bit different to the common boxes, and extremely comfortable.
Parts are not hard to get, no matter what anyone says, and they're not expensive either. There are loads of specialists out there, like Neo Bros, and there are plenty of enthusiastic owners on forums like SaabScene who will help out if there are any problems.
My wife and I have loved all of the Saabs we've had.0 -
love my saab, twin turbo diesel, the drive is superb. They really were the turbo experts. The only expensive service item is the oil, has to mobil1 0w40 otherwise cheap. Owned it 7 years from new, total repairs to date = 1 set disks & pads plus servicing & tires. A bsr tune up gave me 450nm torque and 215 bhp but still does 47 mpg and the power gets used. Best car I have had by far.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

I used to have a Saab 93 2.2TiD. I never had a problem sourcing parts.
I recall one of my front wheel bearings failing, Saab parts shop wanted £75.
Identical Part number to Vauxhall who only wanted £17.50.
I got the one in the Vauxhall box and had no problems at all.0 -

The 93 is based on the Vectra C floorplan / chassis, engines were from SAAB and various GM subsidiaries, the petrol turbo was a SAAB unit also used by Opel / Vauxhall, diesels 1.9L from Fiat with SAAB input on the twin turbo versions and the 3L from Isuzu. Apart from estate rear lights most parts should be readily available, as above common parts share the same part numbers so shop around both SAAB and Opel / Vauxhall parts suppliers.0

You have said this before.
They share underpinnings but huge amounts of the car are not in any way a Vauxhall, you could always say they are based on an Opel!
And not sure where you are seeing these super cheap Saabs as I have been surprised to see that used Saabs (the last few years of production) are holding their prices rather well.
You haven't mentioned the Saab that was based on an Impreza though!!!0 -
Just a further point.
I had a Zafira at work which went back to Vauxhall several times for various ongoing issues. We had our own fitters but more complex stuff was sent to Main Dealer due to time constraints.
The Saab dealer on The Highway sorted it properly at first attempt.
The cam was starting to sieze in the head, probably due to failed DPF Regens diluting the oil, it was a 55 plate so an early one.
Was the best running Zafira on my complex after that.0
