Door and sill damage query
I damaged the rear passenger door and sill when turning out in a supermarket carpark (did not see the low rail of the trolley stand).
I been to one body shop, he said best to use new door and with paint approx. price is £1500!! Cheapest he said is just try pull dents and paint over will be ~ £500-600!
Car is a Cirtroen C4 2 years old. I have no claims and 10+ years NCB.
Thinking is it worthing claiming in my insurance?
I can post a photo if someone call tell me how.
thanks

I did something very similar some years ago turning out too tight of a filling station and hitting a steel cement filled bollard. Totally sickening. i was gutted.
Personally - on a two year old car it needs fixed properly, so i'd rule out pulling the dents and blowing it over.
I'd be inclined to put it through the insurance - no other car involved, no injury claims, etc - it wont put your insurance up by very much.0 -
get another quote is my advice ideally at an independant repairer who likes cash0

If its bad enough to need a new door, and possibly a new sill, then the car stripped and those fitted, plus prep and paint probably the whole side of the car, then you're into significantly north of £1,000 anyway done by anyone who is anyway decent / takes pride in their work.
You could get a cheap job done on it yes, but on a two year old car i'd say thats a false economy.0 -

i didnt say get a cheap job done i said go to an independent bodyshop not one thats run purely for insurance work as most are here in blighty
i have 2 independants within 500 yards of me and one can quote £200 and the other £450 for the very same job, this would easily be £1000 at the big boys it all depends who needs the work
anyway if car sill cant be easily reshaped with only a thin skim then under pas 125 the car is a write off for insurance purposes0 -
been to 2 more independents body shops today, they said £500-600 for a basic repair to pull out door bend and sill damage, but all recommended a new door as its bent inwards quite a bit. Thus pushing the price well north of £1000 just for a small mishap at the supermarket!!! ouch0

difficult one then
if it was me i would now be looking for a local ish breaker of late model cars with a view to buying a complete door in same colour and getting bodyshop to fit and get them to repair/paint sill
but i am in the trade so it would not phase me0 -

a new door is £350, second hand if available would be £200, and when I was given estimate for this its well above £600++
Looks like an insurance job *cringe* (the shocker is how much my premiums will go up by).
For insurance work is it better to use my dealer or a local independent?0
