Do a TEFL Diploma and teach in the UK.
Teach in an FE college.0 -

Not if she wants something less stressful. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Pay isn't always great, but it is a hell of a lot easier!0 -
I am tempted by FE but wasn't sure of what other training to do. I did consider social work as I am really happy doing the pastoral work, but I want less stress in my life really.0

FE lecturing means less work with children; pay and conditions are no match to school-teaching.
Independent sector? Sixth Form sector?
TEFL can be very rewarding.
Social work can be immensely stressful, rather like teaching. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
It makes me so sad when I read this
I don't blame you at all and to be frank, I think most people working in the public sector would right just the exact same words as you.
I have quite a few teacher friends and they say exactly the same, as does some things that are said to Year 12 kids that you know mean they feel exactly like that.
I don't blame teachers one bit but do feel sadden for the children. My kids have seen so many excellent teachers go because they couldn't cope with all the corporate demands that made them forget they were teachers in the first place. They go to a decent school, with reasonably behaved children, but I've really seen the standard of teaching going down in the last 5 years. I remember meeting with DD Year 7 science teacher who had a huge impact on her as he is the one who encouraged her to consider Medicine as a future career. He worked as a scientist, but said then that he wanted to get away from all the company internal politics and wanted to go back to a job where he made a difference, hence choosing teaching. He is a brilliant teacher. 5 years later, DS science teacher and I saw another man, one totally deflated and fed-up and he admitted that he reached the point when he was hence again considering a totally different career, that he loved teaching but he had enough of being told how to do it when he knows that what he is asked doesn't work and in no way does what he wanted to do, help youngsters get the same buzz about science as he did as a kid and inspire them to a career in that field.
I do wish you good luck, but really hope things change soon so that teachers can actually start enjoying their job again and feel they are making a difference for our next generation.0 -
At first I took the easy route and started working for an examboard.
Now I work in the insurance sector part time, I earn more than I did as a teacher, I really enjoy not taking my work home.0 -
zagubov - I am thinking it would be a good opportunity to still make a difference if I stayed in FE. TEFL I will look into as I'd need to take the course, and then find work in that sector.
FBaby - Honestly it makes me sad to write it. I love my job, I love working with the kids and making a difference, I love every part of being with my class, but the extra stuff is just not worth it.
I'm still in touch with teachers who made such a difference on me, and they say the same that it's just got harder and harder. I am in the same though as your science teacher. I want to teach, but considering something else as I'm sick of trying so hard to be told nope we've changed it again.
GwylimT - Was it hard to get into insurance? I may look at examboard work for a first step.0 -
FE is no different to schools with frequent changes and top down bullying to fulfill nonsense targets and save money.
Hubby has been in FE for 10 years and asking the same questions you are, how to get out.0
