Notifying insurer but not making a claim...

Hi All,
A while ago my old Saab 900 was broken into and vandalised.
I rang my insurance company to notify them but did not make a claim once it was explained to me that due to the age and value of the car I would of ended up out of pocket.
So fast forward to now and I am curious as to if this will effect my renewal or if I will have to declare it when I obtain new quotes?
Of course I can just wait for my renewal to come through and see if it appears on there but like to be prepared and know what to expect in advance!
Many thanks for and advice or experiences.

Irrespective of whether your renewal shows this you do have to disclose this as an incident/loss.
Most insurers do want to know about any losses and yours will have been put on the shared database (used by insurers to prevent fraudulent applications)
Next time don't contact your insurer unless you are certain you want to make a claim (or a third party is involved)0 -
Thanks for your help - I always thought I had a duty to disclose, but is that more if my details change and I am OK not to inform them of a non fault incident if I choose? It's your choice to breach the terms of your policy. You just need to weigh up the chances of being caught.0 -

I'm not looking to breach any terms.
I only want to know what I have to do when it comes to renewal time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You need to answer all the questions you are asked truthfully at renewal time.
(As advised, they don't just ask about "claims")
You have reported a loss/vandal attack and this will be on your record that other insurers have access to, so don't be tempted to "forget" it - were you not to disclose it then that could allow the insurer to void your policy and reject any claim should they feel your non disclosure was deliberately done to save money on your premium
*********************************
Your policy will require you to report all incidents/losses you are involved in - in this case you did so, and consequently now must disclose it to any insurers you approach for quotes.
In future if you are involved in a loss but don't intend making a claim and no third party is involved then most would not involve their insurer! (Though it would still be a breach of the policy conditions)0 -

Thanks again - It's just a frustrating situation as I had to make a claim due to vandalism that has only just fallen outside the 5 years and was looking forward to a 'clean' quote and renewal but yet again something has gone wrong! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Just a quick update on this...
My latest renewal was less than what I was getting via comparison sites and when we renewed my wife's policy with me as an additional driver the price did not change when I added my 'notification only' claim.
