Morning all it's been a busy and stressful week at work dealing with some tricky HR issues, so this has been the first opportunity I have had to report on the start of the new month. I did the bank account patrol this morning ( and this is taking longer- we currently have 9 current accounts because we are mid switch). The good news is all the direct debits have transferred over to the new Co-op accounts and so we will meet the criteria for the switching bonus of £150 x 2.
I have done the various money shuffles and moved £700 into our emergency/holiday pot as this was empty and needs building up again. We have to pay in August for our big trip that is planned for November.
Already this month £75.65 has gone into the O&S account. This was made up of
    TCB £36.75
    TIlly Tidy £5.96
    Barclays Blue. £12.00
    TSB interest. £15.54
    Tilly Tidy. £5.40

So a flying start to the month. I am hoping for some good fleabay sales this weekend, I have 10 items listed, 2 with bids and 9 with multiple watchers. One item has 14 watchers !

I have had quite a spendy week this week though, a reaction to a very tight May I think. We had some friends over on Monday and went for a walk and ended up in the pub and spent a tenner and then yesterday I met a girlfriend and went for afternoon tea and cocktails. Afternoon tea was a groupon deal £12 with a glass of prosecco and we had bogof cocktails, so a total of £21 paid. It has been nice to do some socialising after a fairly miserable May.
I am working from home today and hope to get out for a run later to clear my head of a lot of work rubbish. Have a good day :)

Ah but it is all earmarked to pay off the mortgage at some point in the future and is only about 14% of the total mortgage. So although it looks quite impressive, it really isn't.
Still I do feel like we are making progress and I hope that saving as much as I can will give us a choice about when we give up work and whether we need to downsize the house

All relative I suppose to the overall goal of MF and then retirement planing. Still it's nice seeing balances with lots of big numbers!

Most of us have regrets about our spending habits of the past, but what matters is what you are doing now. It sounds to me as if you provided well to give your family a good start, but now it is time to focus on your own financial security. You are turning things around now and it is nice to hear you are both working towards that goal

Morning all - it is a bit of a grey morning here.
I discovered last night that I can view my mortgage on line ( to be fair I have never tried to look before) and discovered the mortgage has gone down again ( I think I have been a month behind). It now stands at £258,393.05 and our savings are £35,797.73 which is 13.85% of the total. We have a mortgage in two parts, a repayment mortgage which is the part that is currently reducing and then the mortgage reserve which is interest only which remains static. I currently pay approx £1050 per month, which services the repayment mortgage and pays the interest on the remainder. As this is an offset mortgage the interest varies slightly each month. I am currently reducing the repayment bit of the mortgage by approx £879 a month but I think I need to find a mortgage calculator to work out what our mortgage will be in 47 months time, so I can see what percentage my £100 k target will be.
I have a nice day planned today, Park Run this morning and then a facial and massage booked for this afternoon using a voucher DS bought me for my birthday :)
