Help with really cheap break in sun please

Just a faint hope that someone could suggest something for us. We are pretty broke, for health reasons, and haven't had a sunshine holiday abroad for 3 years. I was wondering what is cheapest way we could get a weeks holiday in the sun - not red hot, just warm enough to sit in sun and be somewhere foreign! Would prefer to avoid possibly dangerous places like Egypt.

Don't care when we go, if poss from Stansted or other London.

Thought about cheap flight to Marseille then find a hotel in resort near by. Though I think France not the cheapest place, and want to avoid expense of car hire.

Cyprus appeals, we could get a half board deal possibly.

We like quiet peaceful places and enjoy exploring local towns etc. Wondered about parts of mainland Spain?

Camping not sure, as OH wold want own loo at night! Likewise hostels, we would like own bathroom, being a bit fussy I know. Thanks for any suggestions.

I was just looking at Rhodes for a short break and there are some good deals about for hotels there, £169/person for 7 nights (inc flight) from EDI so London would probably be cheaper.

Ryanair to Reus and stay at Salou.

Mid May can be a cheap time to go, late deals tend to go on sale 6 weeks before, so start looking at the late deal pages of the package holiday operators http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/deals https://www.thomascook.com/deals/#intcmp=TopNav_Deals

There are great deals on Turkey at the moment. I'd be quite happy to go there but perhaps not Istanbul or Ankara. The Aegean and Med coasts will be 24 degrees next week. Flight from Stansted to Dalaman on Easy Jet on 16 April Depart 14.25 arrive Dalaman 20.30. Come back 23rd April, 21.15 arrive 23.30. Price £206.96 for 2 persons including 20kg hold baggage each - absolute bargain.
Looking at Dalyan as a resort as I love it there - Trivago shows Minta Apart hotel, 1 bedroom self catering apartment as £87.57 for the week. It is quite central and shows 4.5 stars on trip advisor.
If you want half board there is the Patio hotel at £169. Add a shared transfer from and to the airport at £38 and you are looking at £166.26 each for self catering or £206.98 for half board.

Actually if you can go at short notice there are some great package holiday deals in some of the bigger resorts. Thomson are doing a 5T resort in Marmaris half board on Monday 11th April from Gatwick at £209 each. Thomas Cook have some really cheap deals, from £102 each self catering to £135 each all inclusive.

Like you I would not be too keen on Egypt but I think Turkey is worth the risk - nowhere can be guaranteed to be completely safe. Turkish airports have always x-rayed luggage before you get into the terminal.

What about taking the car over on the ferry and staying on the west coast of France - you should get pretty good weather there in June.

Prices for a week's self catering accommodation and car ferry around £550 to cover you both.

Went to portugal a couple of years ago for a week. The best and cheapest holiday we've had.

Stayed near a place called ferragudo which is a smallish fishing village. Beautiful place and quaint. Went in the off season and the price was riddiculously cheap, think we spent ~£250 for flights and accomodation for both of us.

Eating out/food seemed quite cheap or at least you got amazing food for a reasonable price.

I second holiday pirates, and sunshine stacey as well - had a few off both, great for super cheap breaks.
  • Thank you all - lots of good ideas I'm going through.

I hadn't seen Sunshine Stacy before, and it's great the way she shows you how to put together a package. So many hols start at one cheap price, but when you go to book, they seem to almost double.

The Dalaman trip looks good, I have been there just for 1 day and loved it. I was a bit doubtful about Turkey atm, but I suppose we are just as much as risk when walking around London!

    Thanks again all :)
