Cheap rabbit enclosure/fence

Hi :)

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend me a cheap rabbit enclosure/fence.

My mum has two big pet rabbits. They are kept indoors and are locked in a cage at night, but have free run of the house during the day.

Unfortunately they make a terrible mess. They poo and pee everywhere and my mum has to constantly clean up after them. They also tear wallpaper off the walls, destroy the backs of sofas and chew through wires. Apart from bring inconvenient this has also cost her a fair amount of money due to replacing stuff and vet fees.

She has considered getting a pen type enclosure, but says that they are too expensive and cost over £100. Personally I think even paying that much would end up working out cheaper than the current situation, but she doesn't have a lot of money to play around with so I can understand her not getting one.

So, does anyone know of a more reasonably priced way to set up a fence enclosure for rabbits? It would have to be something that can easily be put up and down again indoors and capable of keeping two large rabbits contained.

Would really appreciate any help.

Thanx

:D

Toileting. Why weren't they trained as kittens? What steps has she since taken to toilet train them?

    Destruction.
How much play do they get a day? How often are their toys rotated to prevent boredom?

No idea about any indoor pens that would be large enough, so I can't help there.
  • I know she has tried treating them when they use the litter tray, but I don't know if she's tried anything else.

My mum and my younger sister spend time with them throughout the day, I don't know about the toy rotation.

You can toilet train buns, even as adults.

I use something similar to this, but bought two and they can be joined together to give more room...I also don't put them in their circle formation, you could use them to corner off an area.

I'm sure a quick google search could bring up similar but cheaper. I think I paid £25 for each of mine.

Are they neutered/spayed? That can make a huge different with litter training

My son has house rabbits, they are kept in a huge dog crate that also has a second floor made of wood, giving them loads of room. They are litter tray trained. He lets them run around a couple of hours per day.

I would suggest looking on eBay, free cycle etc.

If they're not already sprayed/neutered, its worth getting them done. They are so much better with litter tray use when done, and also, less destructive. I have 4 rabbits in an 18ft x 10ft shed, they have free run of it. They have 4 litter trays and they are always used, there's the odd stray poo but its certainly not bad.

Before they were all neutered/spayed it was much worse.

Also, why not suggest giving them things they ARE allowed to destroy? Mine love a cardboard box or a phone book, or even a newspaper. Yes its more to tidy but they have great fun doing it and you can keep it contained in one area. Do they have toys and tunnels and things to play with?

I have these pens for outside use (supervised), but they would be ideal indoors. The first two are quite small but the 78" one is very spacious. My bunnies all love theirs.

Can you see this review? This was from me. If you look at the picture you can see the difference in size between the medium and large. http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R2O3O8S0N3I4CY/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0054PBWJ4
