Halifax Issue - "collections"

Hello Im new here and really need some advice.

I had a lloyds bank account with a large overdraft which went into a Debt Relief Order last year, I since opened a halifax account. Its a basic one but they told me if I use it well for 12 months they would probably upgrade to a full current account blah blah

I since found out theyve put a 'with collections' marker on the account. Obviously due to lloyds because they are in the same banking group. My question is:

If I am to have any future chance with halifax, is it best to close the account with them and wait 6 years until lloyds get rid of my information and start again, or should I use the account and should I be able to upgrade still?

I feel as though I've been blacklisted by the lloyds banking group, even though 'blacklisting' apparently doesn't exist. :(

any help appreciated x

You won't get a full account with Halifax whilst you have the Lloyds debt.

Open an account outside of the Lloyds banking group - depending on your credit history you may get a basic account elsewhere first - then up to you as how you run it.
  • You might get a full account but if the Lloyds account has gone to recoveries then good luck ever getting lending.

Of course black listing exists, the shut people's accounts with no explanation and refuse to deal with them again, I'd call that black listing.

Don't hold your breath that Lloyds will get rid of your info after 6 years. It'll drop off your third party CRA reports then, but banks have been known to hold information internally a lot longer than that.
  • If you've had an account sent to recoveries then internally you'll always be regarded as a collections customer.

I agree with other posters. Some banks have very long memories, First Direct still ask me daft questions even though I've banked with them for years and never had a late payment etc. I would hate to think how they would treat me if I ever exceeded my overdraft!
