Smartphone or other device (clueless!)

Options
I currently have a very basic mobile phone but I need to replace it. I'm not sure what to get. I'd like something that makes phone calls and texts but also has a camera, where I can upload them to snapfish in a really idiot proof way (Like my iPad does). Also, it would be great if I could put music on it and play them in my car. The car has a round pin thing for plugging something into.

I imagine an iPhone would be the easiest option to use as I can download music onto my iPad fine, but are there are other options? I'be heard about phones costing people a fortune due to using 3G when they don't want it to, so I'm very nervous about that.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks knightstyle, that's certainly a better price than even a used iPhone.

I've only ever had nokia phones and I'm sure these are dumb questions so please forgive my ignorance, but it says it uses 4G. How do I stop it from costing money running apps and things when I'm out? Also, using android, do I need to get antivirus software?

No need for anti virus, if you only download apps from the play store you shouldn't have any need for anti virus.

Eta as for how to stop it using 4G, you can turn on airplane mode.

I've got an android phone the Nexus 5 to be exact and I've not had any issues with 4G costing me money when I haven't turned 4G on.

You can set apps to only download updates when connected to wifi.

Just to add Moto e doesn't have a flash. The Moto G does, but I'm not impressed with its camera.

Can the Moto play music in the car? I've been reading about it on the tesco website and it says it has an 'all day battery'. Does that mean it only lasts 1 day? My current phone lasts at least two weeks between charges.

It will depend on what you use if for.

Yes you might be able to play music via the auxiliary port in your car and connect a 3.5 auxiliary cable to the headphone porthe on the phone.

Hi you have a number of issues here .

1: your used to the apple ecosystem and presumably have music in Itunes . This would make the iphone the least learning curve .
Other phones like android or windows operate on sinmilar principles . in such as they all have a app store and all update their apps over the internet . They all have headphone sockets wich you plug a lead into the car stereo .
They all used batteries heavily compared to what you are used to

2: If you dont go apple you will need to convert your music to mp3 . This can be done in itunes .
All of them will use data either mobile or wifi , Mobile costs . So things like you tube or iplayer can be costly if you are mot careful . 4g compared to 3 g is like comparing old broband to fiberoptic . It can be turned off
If it was me ask your friends and family what they use , and have a play with either their phones

the other thing is Storage a 8gb phone is about 5 gb because half is used by the operating system . Some phones android or windows will let you store apps , pictures on a Micro sd card which you wil buy as an extra . I phones do not have this option .
  • Nokia has good smartphone now with superb camera .

If you are considering buying a phone with 4G, make sure to check that the area in which you live has good 4G coverage. That's why my phone is still 3G, my service provider has no plans to introduce 4G any time soon.
