Do you even know which Toyota is comparable to a Disco 3?0 -

You will need to be more specific.
Since they all have many components in common, including engines and gearboxes in many cases.
£8500 is not a huge budget for a full size 4x4, I sold my starship miles Pathfinder (last year) for £6000 as a trade, no comeback sale and that was an 08.
A Disco3 is still a better vehicle to drive than a Pathfinder will ever be.
And the Pathfinder gearbox went a few months after I sold it, don't know what the buyer did to it, all I ever did to the Pathy was tyres, brakes and servicing.
My advice to anybody wanting a full size 4x4 is make sure you have the pockets to run it. No point moaning about not being able to afford it later on.
Part of the reason many people have problems with Discos or similar is people out them just before a problem becomes an issue, and the new owner suffers a breakdown within days or purchase.0 -

Yess they are and never were the all go anywhere vehicle they claimed. When working at a firm on contract many years ago one of the sparks got a new landrover and before the delivery driver left the radiator had a small leak the drivers seat was lifting on one side and the passenger door would not close without springing half open again. They took it away again and returned it with passenger door still the same and the lever for 4by 4 was stuck in 2 wheel drive....Try comparing that with a mitsubishi or similar0
