  • If its the HDI which I think it is the injectors have a leak back issue when they age which fuel seeps back clogging the injector and shutting down the fuel relay switch which causes open circuit readings when cranking.
The only fix is a set of recon or new injectors.

I am pretty sure its the 1.6 tdci engine but your explanation is positive and gives me hope. He was only getting the readings for the first 15 or so seconds of it starting. Thank you I may sleep a bit easier tonight

Garages rarely give too much detail to customers, as it would rarely be understood or will be taken completely out of context.

So many adopt the KISS principle.

Yes its that good principle that gives them that well deserved reputation. If only our doctors and surgeons adopted that same principle maybe nobody would question them either and our hospitals would be empty

That engine's a joint venture between Ford and PSA - Ford badge it TDCi, PSA badge it HDi.

In my experience many mechanics don't actually know in detail the engineering behind a lot of systems on a car; especially the more complicated ones.

Instead they will know how certain symptoms relate to problems with components which is usually enough to know what to change.

Misdiagnosed injectors are a common issue for early common rail diesel engines in various cars.

Had someone on another forum get told its an injector issue as they pulled up outside the garage without them even looking at it. They heard it....

It was a turbo issue.. with fault codes showing the turbo actuator was stuck.

Luckily they took it elsewhere so not £600+ bill for injectors that were not needed.
