Hi all,
I currently have an Apple Watch, and have waited a very long time for Barclays to pull their finger out and support the service (they're the last major UK bank to adopt the service), only to be told today that they won't offer the service to me, as I only have a "Basic Barclays account". I'm unable to upgrade my account as i'm on Debt management plan and thus they won't offer me a current account.
Can anyone advise if there are any UK banks which can provide me with a bank account, which doesn't require a credit check AND provide Apple Pay?
I don't need any frills like an overdraft facility, just an account I can use to do general day to day things - withdraw cash, pay bills, but most of all, be able to pay for things using my phone or Apple Watch.
I also checked with Halifax and they don't appear to offer the Apple Pay service on their "basic account" either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

You can try Nationwide FlexBasic0

Given the NW website is a nightmare with more options than needed
http://www.nationwide.co.uk/products/current-accounts/flexbasic/features-and-benefitsSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
That's great, it appears that they do. Many many thanks!0

Think nationwide are the only ones to be honest.

I'd also suggest Nationwide's FlexBasic account for Apple Pay w/out a credit check.
From what I've gathered since the service launched last July customers with a "basic" debit card (i.e. the ones you can't use for offline transactions e.g. Pay at Pump) are pretty much excluded, the exception being Nationwide.
In terms of Barclays Bank despite the Apple Pay Terms and Conditions being erroneously shown the other day I think you'll be waiting a while longer for them to (finally) launch. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I agree, Barclays approach to it has been an absolute joke, only to hold out for this long and then to be told they won't give it to me. That shows where loyalty got me.
Thanks for advice. I've just applied for a Nationwide account and succeeded. Thanks again all. Have a good evening.0 -
Don't count your chickens yet I applied for a basic account with nationwide twice a few years ago got accepted online got a letter through saying I have been rejected, since they have revamped the basic accounts this year I tried again got accepted again and actual got a account this time and use it as my main bank think nationwide are fussy on who they take on.0
