Ready to start the shuffle

Hi all, so I've used some extra money that I have received today to clear a credit card. How long should I wait until I ring the CC company up to ask for a BT deal? Do I have to wait until the next statement shows a clear balance or can I do it in say 48 hours time?

Obviously after I complete this first one I can continue the shuffle for the remaining cards and will know the timeframe to wait :) Many thanks in advance.

Is it a card that is likely to offer a BT deal? Most won't offer a BT to someone who had been carrying a balance for a while and many won't offer at all.

I'd suggest you would have more luck with a new application.

Ah right ok, the card is over 10 years old and is my oldest so I guess I should just close it down now then. With regards to new applications, is it best to stay at 1 application every 3 months to keep the checks evened out limiting damage?

There's no single answer. It depends on your circumstances - level of debt, limits, income, payment history, number of cards.

If you're lower risk, you can get away with more applications in a shorter periods.
