It's just an abbreviation, I wouldn't worry about it.
If the bank have an issue they'll update it.

I would recommend getting it corrected to match details of ID documents such as passport or driving licence. It will save hassle in the long run.

Get it changed in branch or contact Natwest, as you will find it will cause problems in the future, with cheque payments etc,

You can be known as Kev when you account is held in Kevin, for payments, credits etc, but if you get a cheque in Kevin, the back is obliged to return it/refuse payment as it doesn't match the account name held.

Happy to be corrected, but is the statement above re: cheques really the case and if so do banks enforce it (generally...)

My account name is 'Mr (Initial),(second initial),(Surname)' but I've often had cheques made out to '(Christian name), (Surname)' which have gone through fine .....

The banks don't usually enforce it as long as the name is close enough. Cheques written out to Kevin will in most cases be paid into Kev's account. Yes they're supposed to return them but they generally don't.

Kev will get an alias appear on his credit report...under this bit...

    quote... "Other names
Any other names e.g. maiden name or any different variations of your full name that you may have been previously known by on the financial accounts that currently appear on your credit report." and then it lists all the names you are known by.

I don't think banks will have any problem with a cheque payable to Kev or Kevin as the shortened version is obvious.
Even cheques payable to Tony can be paid into an account in the name of Anthony etc.

However if the bank ask for identification down the line, for example a loan or credit card application the ID provided HAS to match so if he has Kevin on his passport or driving licence then the name of the account must be changed to Kevin.
