Hello
I bought photoshop elements 5 and have started trying to use it. However, when I enter the programme to view thumbnails - so I can choose images to edit- it is constantly searching for 'missing' files. These are images I deleted before I loaded elements so I'm not sure why it's searching for things that aren't there.
Can anyone tell me how to overcome this so that I can simply use the programme without getting this message every few seconds when scrolling through?
Thanks in advance.

Just a guess: is there a setting in the application which causes it to search automatically for images? You might find it in the Options or Preferences. If there is you should be able to turn it off.0

It shouldn't search for 'missing' files unless you click on a thumbnail that is linked to a 'full' photograph file location which you have deleted, or have moved to a different location.
One suggestion:
If you have 2 drives, C & D, say. See which one your photos are on at present, then move the ones you want to keep to the other drive. Delete anything left on the original drive. Check that they have gone over before you delete anything. !!!!
Elements doesn't have to be on the same drive as where the photos are stored, it is probably on your C drive.
Uninstall Elements, re-install, then go "File", "Reconnect" and link everything to the new location where the photos are now stored.
I shifted several thousands photos from a rapidly filling drive to an empty one this way, with no problems.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'll give these ideas a go, it's driving me mad!!!

you also might want to clean up your hdd with a free prog such as windows cleanup.
it will really delete all those loose ends etc.... you can customise it to only clean up files that you require.Get some gorm.0 -

How do I go about this? Do I just do a search for windows cleanup and download it? I'm not very good at this type of thing.
Thanks
