Petrol lawnmower help, please?

I know this should possibly go in the gardening section, but as it's concerning a petrol lawnmower I'm hoping someone here may be able to help.

I bought a new petrol lawnmower about 5 years ago because my old one was showing signs of packing up so I stashed it in the shed and continued using the old one until it died. Which it eventually did. Today! :(

I haven't a clue where the manual for it is so I don't know which type of oil to purchase. I have a feeling it might be a 4 stroke engine but can't be certain.

It's a McCulloch model 46-500C and has a Briggs & Stratton series 500 engine. Any clues as to which type of oil I need and approx how much please? It's never been used at all.

Many thanks in advance of replies. Hopefully someone will come back promptly as I'd like to get the grass cut today if possible :A

Bloody hell - the joys of google reveals this which includes the owners manual - who'd have thought it :rotfl:

Thank you! I had tried googling but using the model number instead and was becoming increasingly frustrated at not being able to find what I was looking for :o

Thank you, I knew I could rely on MSE for help :T

So in five years, you've never once checked the oil level, topped the oil up, or changed it? No wonder the poor thing's died!

Reading what he said suggests he bought a new lawnmower to replace his current one when it dies.

The current one has taken 5 years to die, in which time the new one has sat unused in the shed.

Now the current one has died he is going to use the new one and needs to add oil and fuel as it has not been used for 5 years.
