Lost Gmail password

Was setting up a new PC for a neighbour yesterday and had to go through the "I can't remember my password" routine. Unfortunately, as PC was still being set up it was not possible to have an e-mail reminder sent but there was an option to have a one-time code sent to a mobile by text. This worked. It wasn't GMail but they might have a similar system.

Yes google have lots of recovery options - the snag is you have to provide such things as phone numbers and emails before losing the password.

Update on this: had an e(g) mail from big bro and all is now fine. Didn't say how but I guess that he went through the security questions and reset it or something. I told him to write it down!! You can't beat a pencil and a sheet of paper. Thanks to all you Techies who helped with advice.
