Car Insurance - Increase with DashCam!

Hi guys,
I've insured my car with Admiral, and to my surprise, after calling them to let them know I've installed a dash camera, my policy price has risen!
With most insurers offering dash-cam discounts, how the hell does this work? Has anyone had the same happen to them?
I'm 29 and my partner is insured on my policy (and is also 29) so we're not really high-risk!!

All mods can affect the premium (usually upwards!)

...and they wonder why people are reluctant to talk to their insurers! I expect they'd charge me if I told them I had a footpump in the boot.
It does seem totally stupid in your case and an abuse of their position (i.e. they charge because they can). Why not start a complaint and takle it all the way to the FOS if necessary? Seems like they are being opportunistic in the extreme especially as your dashcam footage could help them and you avoid taking the blame for an incident.0 -

The OP is mistaken when he says "most insurers" offer a discount for having a dash cam!
Most (if not all) do require you to notify any modifications! And installing a camera does make your car more interesting to thieves0 -

And given some of the footage seen from youtube vigilantes more likely to give chase/display aggression/break rules to get a better shot of the bad driving
Agree they have their place but it's not all positive0 -
Yeah, quite a few of the dash cam clips on youtube are look at this muppet cutting in when you can clearly see them accelerate to close the gap.
6 of one and half a dozen of the other sometimes.
Always best to make changes at the start of the policy then you may have got a discount for the dashcam and no admin charge for making a change.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

It could just as easily hinder them by showing the OP as being clearly to blame for an accident which would otherwise have gone 50/50. Swings and roundabouts.
Not sure that hinders any one insurer. What it will do is settle claims quicker with less potential legal costs so no doubt the claims leeches won't like them.
I can see a lot more broken side windows and stolen cams though.0
