Product to stop grass growing so fast
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a product to put on my back garden grass which is a fast growing type, planted by the previous owners, that will stop it growing so fast, its grows back within a few days and I have gardeners come in once a month. The product would also need to be pet friendly. Thanks for any advice.

There's not much you can do, chemically. There are growth regulators - nurseries use them occasionally, but they are expensive and, as far as I am aware, not available to buy freely. There's no reason why you couldn't re-seed with low maintenance grass seed, which will require fewer cuts. Short of that, the only product would be to buy your own lawnmower - or goat!0

This little gadget will do the job:

It comes with a pink ribbon, but I don't think you get the bloke...or maybe you do for that price.0 -
For that price, I'll cut the OP's grass, and I'll even wear a pink ribbon myself! :eek:0

Pink ribbon and hula-hula skirt on offer here....:p
But enough of this nonsense.... There is a product used in amenity horticulture which makes grass grow more slowly. It costs £350 for the standard 5 litres, so even if it was available to the general public, few might want it.
I also believe Cutlass hedge growth regulator may still be found under the counter, but even that is a whacking £30 for 250ml.
Looked at in that light, the sheep I'm currently paying below the minimum wage, are quite good value, especially as we'll get to eat one of them later......
...No, we won't know which one!0 -
Wild rabbits keep our back lawn in trim though it does have downsides.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

It's a cost balance you need to figure out. A primo Maxx treatment from a pro lawn care company might cut down the frequency of garden visits, but you alreadybpay for the minimum monthly visit by the sound of it so I'm not sure what you're expecting.0

Simply cut it as short as you can as often as you can and make sure you remove the clippings every time. Never water it. Eventually the grass will become exhausted and either grow less or die off to be replaced with mosses and weed growth (including wild flowers).
I always envy the Spanish because so much of their grass is short and brownish and doesn't need cutting more than once or twice a year!0
