Car insurance confusion!

Hello all,

Last June I had an accident which I was at fault, I had only had my license since the January, my problem is my current car insurance is up for renewal soon and now I have had a promotion I plan on getting a new car that makes the insurance worth paying (paying £3500 on a 1ltr corsa at the mo),

I understand when I come to get quotes I need to put that it was my fault and how much the claim cost (which I'll ring my old insurance up to find out), but I was still paying my old insurance while paying for my new insurance so was paying almost £600 a month out just to insurance companies, so I rang them up as I couldn't afford it on minimum wage they told me I can cancel my policy no problem as I'm not using their service anymore but they told me I still owed something like 2 months on my insurance and that someone would be in touch to talk about how I can pay, this was around November last year no one has since contacted me saying I have to pay anything and the policy ended in December 2015, would i still have to pay it as its been so long if I rang up to find out details to put on my new insurance quotes I.e the claim cost?

Also my ex girlfriend who was in the car at the time has put a claim in through injury solicitors, but I have not been told a value or nothing on that, what would I put down for my new insurance regarding this?

Thanks in advance, apologies for it being so long.

  • You need to chase your previous insurer to avoid a hefty bill/fine/debt collection later.
Your girlfriend needs to chase up the claims company.

Assuming your ex has put in a claim against you, then you will need to include this injury compensation claim when declaring your history to new insurers.

If you don't know the details, and cannot get them off your insurer then put down the injury claim as ongoing (if it is)
  • Yeah I plan on ringing the old insurance up to find out how much the previous claim was, as for the one with my ex girlfriend I have no way of contacting her and the solicitors she's with won't tell me nothing, so would I just add that as a seperate claim against me and put not settled?

No, this is all part of the same incident, so one claim
  • So would I just adjust the claim to accident my fault and person injured, unsettled if its the same claim?

    Thanks again
