Hi
I need to lose around 2 stone. I lost nearly 5 pounds before easter, but then we got a few eggs and yeah :O
I currently walk around 2-3 miles a day by walking to and from son's school and walking the dog. I am trying to fit in the 30 day shred dvd every day too- one 20 min workout.
I work full time though and raise a child alone too. I need ideas to sort out my wobbly bits really!
I eat ok- no more than 1300- 1500 calories a day.
Should I buy some a cross trainer, a treadmill, something like that to fit in too? What would be best? I need to lose weight on my thighs and arms really.
Please help if you can

Hi wigster
Glad your doing okay (followed your thread on marriage board)
I wouldn't spend any money on equipment
Do you use my fitness pal? It's really good for calculating calories and nutritional value of what your eating.
I have a garmin vivofit I use this and link it to my fitness pal so I can see calorie deficit.
Walking is good
There are loads of exercises on YouTube if you want to do something focused.
Well done on the job!0 -
My Fitness Pal is a good app to use to keep a track of what you eat and it can be really eye opening when you add that little bottle of OJ or sneaky milky way! They all add up.
I would consider myself a bit of a fitness geek and so I think the DVD's are a great idea for someone who has their hands full. Metafit can continue to burn calories hours after you've finished and the exercise may only take 20-30 mins.
I personally will get up at 6am and go for a swim or a run then I'm back showered ready for the day ahead before anyone else is awake, your new found determination may help encourage you to get out your comfy bed (I know how difficult it is).
Have you tried yoga? Im a big fan and only attend a class once a week but I feel great after it and it's that good feeling that drives me to keep going with fitness and my diet.
A quick answer would be to do what you done before Easter and lost some weight.0 -
If you're only eating 1400 calories average and walking a couple of miles, say 200 cals burnt and doing 20 mins of exercise with the dvd, that's 400 give or take which takes your calorie total down to 1,000 per day. You'll easily lose weight like that without doing anything extra.0

Another vote for Myfitnesspal here!
If you're doing the 30 day shred and walking a few miles a day, you should definitely be losing on 1300-1500 calories a day. So if you aren't, you might be underestimating how much your eating. Weighing and measuring your food accurately, even if you only do it for a few weeks, can be a real eye opener.
If you get bored of the 30 Day Shred I'd recommend fitnessblender.com - they've got hundreds of workouts of varying levels of difficulty.0 -
In my point of view, the secret is in the continuty and seriousness, you should have the kaizen spirit, just keep doing you exercices permanently, dont give up and you will see the results.
I advice you to avoid using the chemical products; in my point of view, it doesn't make sense.0 -
I agree with Cazs, if you truly only take on 1300-1500 calories, then you should be losing weight. Are you sure you are being totally honest counting though? Are you adding the cups of coffee/tea, even if only with milk, that's about 20 calories, so if you have 5 a day, that's already 100 calories just from drinking. Same with wine, one glass is about 250-300 calories yet easy to forget about.0

Thank you everyone. I don't drink or smoke- I don't like tea or coffee and only have 1 hot chocolate a day if I have time/fancy it! My go-to drink is milk- drink it for breakfast and a few cups at tea time so maybe I should cut down there. Otherwise, its just water.
I do struggle not to eat junk in evenings- is there anything low calorie that I could have? I thought digestives would be ok- only 35 cals?
My meals are pretty much the same:
breakfast- milk and small bowl special k
lunch- ham sandwich and fruit
dinner- quick meal- jacket potatoes/rice and chicken/chilli con carne/stirfry etc.Up and onwards to the future!

Crikey, that makes me hungry. It seems hardly anything to me, I am a big eater, particularly in the early part of the day. Weightloss is 80-90% what you eat, exercise for fitness and shape/tone etc, not weightloss.
For me personally, and we're all different! I would change what Im eating. I would change the cereal in the morning for a couple of boiled eggs, not even every day...I get a bit 'egged out' if I eat them every day. I would find a way to loose the bread at lunch time, perhaps have a massive salad with either, tuna, ham, or chicken but then I LOVE salad and eat massive salads that make my co-workers chuckle when they see them. I cant afford to do it in winter so I usually take a veg heavy bolognaise and sweet potato in winter but now the garden has started providing lettuce again I can afford daily massive salads.
If I have a sandwich for lunch, Im hungry within an hour and STARVING by the time I get home, not so with a massive protein based salad which means I can get stuff done when I get home rather than commencing eating immediately. Not sure what your portion sizes are in the evening but adding veg is always good, if there is already lots of veg on your plate - add more :rotfl:
I find I feel better being a bit lower carb than the standard, and if I follow the template of lower carb by adding protein and veg and removing pasta/bread I loose weight and tone up pretty quick, bread and pasta are pretty cheap so I eat them more when I dont have much money.
I know lots of people that eat the way you do with tracking and cereal/sandwiches etc and it often works fine for them. Not for me, I would be constantly tired and hungry or constantly eating. We're all different, but that is the changes I would make.0 -
Oh I do go on...sorry.
Exercise: you do enough low level and high intensity cardio. Lift weights! Lots of stuff online about body weight exercises you can do, no equpiment required, go for the big 'compound' movements. You will recognise a lot of the movements from 30DS, they use a lot of muscles therefore burn a lot of energy. I enjoyed 30DS, I like Gillians no-nonsence approach but got bored eventually.0 -

2. Take 500 calories out of your BMR result(My BMR is 2,830 and if I wanted to lose weight, I'd consume 500 less calories a day - so 2,330).
3. Drink a lot of water, it makes your metabolism operate faster + lose weight.
4. Cardio - 30 minutes of walking. You can run as well.0
