Can a bank account be transferred to another person so it doesn't mess up my credit?

My ex has been using one of my old bank accounts for years. He pulled the wool over my eyes and changed all the details so I don't have access now as I don't know any of the account details. Anyway to cut a long story short he keeps lying and saying he has closed the account but I've just done a free credit check and he has once again racked up nearly 4k on the over draft. What can I do? It causing me no end of stress and he won't even talk to me.
Luckily at the moment my credit score is fine but that's not the point. We aren't together anymore, it's my account and he is being so cruel.
I haven't spoken to the bank as I don't know what to say because if I freeze the account he might not be able to pay anything in to lower the balance. I'm totally stuck.

It's your account in your name so he can't close it just like that.
When you say changed the details, do you mean the login details for online banking ?
Talk to the bank and tell them someone else has had access ( been compromised) to your account details/login details and they need to be reset.
Is he likely to pay anything in to lower the debt ?0 -

He's always 'going to' pay off the over draft but god knows. I don't trust a word he says now but I can't pay it off so it's making me feel physically sick as he told me he had sorted it.
He has obviously changed a lot of details as I no longer get any mail so I don't know my account number or sort code. I didn't set up the online banking, he did all that. He came up with all this BS years ago about his account being hacked so he needed to pay his wages into my account as I didn't use it and me being trusting let him.
I'm at a loss!0 -

No but it won't increase by ex using it.
It's your account - your debt. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -

Thanks for the advice.
Either close it or get the details changed but do it asap. Get it sorted out now whilst it's a low amount.
They may not want the whole amount in 1 go but over a period of time.0 -
Would this not be classed as fraud? I have no experience so could be barking up the wrong tree of course!0

Yes, but since the OP gave him the bank details she is still liable for the money.0 -

Strictly speaking, from the moment when the OP withdrew her permission for the ex to use the account, and when he said that he had closed it, he was committing fraud by operating the account and borrowing the money.0
