Rendering or Rendaboard??

Hi
we were planning to get our external walls(presently bricks and timber frame) rendered to lighten up the place.
One of the tradesman was advocating rendaboard rather than conventional cement+sand rendering,and another one was keen on K rend instead.
Does anybody have any advices/info on these?
