Low Credit Card Limit

I recently applied for a credit card with Barclaycard‏ expecting to get a relatively high limit as I have an excellent credit rating.

However I have been told that I should cancel my credit card with Natwest that has a £2k limit and no balance as this will give me more available credit which I can then ask Barclay for a higher limit?

Possibly, if you have several other cards and depending on your income.

I earn quite well and have no other credit cards just car finance

Then I wouldn't close your only card. If Barclay reject you, you'll be left with none.

Also £2k is a fairly low limit in any case.

I never use the Natwest one as 0% purchase period ended last year and it has no balance. The Barclays one has been accepted just a rubbish limit of £600
wondering what I can do to get them to give me a bigger limit

Sounds like your car finance or something in your credit files is making lenders wary, if you're being given such low limits.

Have you checked all three files to ensure all the data is correct? How much is your car finance?

I have only checked experian, Car finance was taken out in November and is only £230 a month
