Argos messed up, now trying to take money from me,

Hi all,

I need a bit of advice here, not sure if anyone has had this or knows about it.

I bought a table and chairs from Argos back in November, I paid and as far as I was aware it all went through. Until last week I receive an email saying the payment was never taken, which is the case as I went back and looked having not noticed at the time due to moving house and a lot of payments being made. They now tell me they are taking the full amount off me on the 7th April. I feel this isn't my problem, I paid as far as I was aware and shouldn't have this inconvenience, is there any ruling on a consumer not taking payment and chasing for it nearly 5 months later?! They also caused me a lot of problems in the first place getting my delivery!

Thanks

But you haven't paid so you owe them the money for the goods you have received.

Mistakes happen from time to time and don't entitle you to free goods.

If you can't afford it all in one go, negotiate a payment plan.

    As above.

Think of the period you have had as an interest free option, now is the time to cough up!

It is your problem as you have received goods that you haven't paid for, Argos have 6 years to chase you for payment... As already said if you can't afford the hit in one payment see if they are willing to take it in instalments.

Perhaps this is the time to start checking your statements more carefully. If you genuinely didn't notice the payment not being taken, what else have you missed?
  • they have, as far as i see, 6 months to take money without letting you know again, and then up to 6 years, after letting you know to request the money, and take you to court for it if you dont want to give them what you owe

Thanks for all your help everyone. I just really wanted to know if they could do this and if anyone else has had the same situation. Just haven't had the best experience with them so far so this is just another problem they are have created.

It may not be their fault. It could be an issue with the payment provider. Either way, you have the goods and they don't have the money.

Adding further issues into the mix doesn't alter anything.

Dont you feel you have an obligation to pay for goods that you have received and accepted.

Argos are entitled to charge you for them. If you havent been satisfied with their service, that is a complaint you can take up with them, but its a bit rich thinking that you are entitled to free or discounted goods.
