NPower

Options
Has anyone else had the experience with NPower that you signed up for 2 years in the firm belief after looking at all their figures that they were far cheaper than your old provider, only to find out that they are over 3 times more expensive? I am now paying £200 per month (that just covers 1 missed month)!!!!!!!! I feel utterly, utterly bamboozled. :(

I was with N Power for about a year and despite of all the negative press about this company I found them excellent. I had an online account and gave them meter readings on a regular basis and for me no problem.

    I only left on price.

This reads as you did not understand the figures you signed up to .
You probably saw the estimated cost and the estimated Direct Debit . Failing to see the unit costs .
You have meter readings and tariff costs ??
Post them so we can try to help.

I've swapped from BG Standard tariff to nPower 1yr Fixed. They've quoted me £85 per month via direct debit based on last years kWh usage I entered into the USwitch website.

Gordon Hose - if they are setting your DD at £85 per month based on a comparison website then I think you should consider asking them to make it at least £100 based on the fact that the comparison sites don't actually use the figures you enter, they use a percentage figure instead which is lower than you think.

You should also save at least a further £20 per month in a separate savings account somewhere just to be sure you can pay any possible outstanding balance if and/or when you switch away from them.

Did you do your own sums or are you just relying on their figures. In the end you really do have to check your tariff and make sure that you are getting what you signed up for.

You should only actually pay for what you use so even if the DD is a bit on the high side it should work out in the end but I prefer to do my own calculations based on my own consumption figures (I keep my own records)and tell them what my DD should be.

I've just had a quick chat with my supplier FU who wanted to increase my DD based on their guess (even though they've got 30 months worth of records). I've told them that come the end of my fix on 30th April they'll owe me £50 so put it back or they'll owe me £85 - all sorted.

The monthly direct debit is only an estimate of the cost for a year divided by 12, based on previous figures or on an average for property type/number of rooms/number of occupants..

The fuel bought by someone paying £75/month is not necessarily cheaper than that of someone quoted £85/month.

It is the standing charge and unit cost which you agree to fixing, so if someone is quoted £75, but uses more fuel, they will end up in arrears and have their payments increased, to catch up.

However, if someone uses less, they will accumulate a sum of money, probably be offered lower payments and have the accumulated money automatically refunded, when it reaches a certain amount.

I am now E.on and have experienced such exceptional service. Their online facilities are A1 and I like the idea you can adjust the monthly dd yourself.

Would be loathe to leave them.

Yes, I agree about the different figures the comparison sites use. Just found out about that and in my opinion it is a fraudulent comparison we are getting. What's the point of giving them what you actually use if they base their comparison on their own inputs just so they can make the 'savings' look better. And nobody calls them on that.
