I actually just phoned them up and they did it over the phone. My mind is blown, seems far too easy must be a trap :o
He said I'd only just met the deadline and they may come back to me on it but I gave him the details and he just went and filed the claim for me and then said thats all done for now

HMRC are currently amalgamating all their separate systems into one in preparation for the new Digital Tax Account. HMRC should soon have an online record of all interest payments reported by banks and building societies so that tax certificates are no longer needed. If your interest receipts have already been integrated into your account then there should be no need for HMRC to contact you again.

I look forward to the digital tax, seems you are dead on with your prediction
They sent me a cheque today, I didnt expect anything for months. Years ago I paid 30% of everything I earnt under an emergency tax code as my agency dgaf and it took forever to actually get my pay back. This was much neater though I messed up and overpaid hundreds in the previous year, just have to take that as a voluntary contribution to HMG :o Didnt it allow claims 6 years back many years ago, I must be thinking of company tax

You can register for a digital Personal Tax Account <here> if you don't currently submit Self Assessments online.

The website is in Beta version at the moment so pretty rudimentary but you can check some of the basics.

They don't it's just your income from wages on P60 although I have successfully claimed back the £1.25 per month for the last two years, applied via post when I get the tax certicate each year.

CORRECT : I have claimed £1.25/month tax back in my online self assessment tax return every year since 2007 and I have always received £15 refund promptly from HMRC back into.....my Halifax Reward account ! It is a reward not interest on savings.

Indeed - it is NOT interest so therefore NOT applicable to the Personal Savings Allowance.

Low income people can reclaim the tax deducted, Higer rate Tax payers have to pay an additional 20%
