I 'm a new investor and looking to put £2000 in to a new ISA in April and then drip feed £500-£1000 a month and so have started to look at which funds I put money into. I'm looking to invest 70% in Equities and the remainder in bonds/property.
I'm unsure on how to split the 70% equities amongst UK and Global. Looking on the internet there seems to be a large difference of opinion on how best to allocate. I have seem some say 60/40 UK/Global and others 10/90 UK/Global with a strong weighting in US equities. I'm sure there is no right or wrong answer, but would be interested in have a range of opinions on here about asset allocation. Is it best to select global funds or separate fund (US, Asia/pacific, Europe)?
Are there any funds anyone can recommend which I can go away and research.
I would also be interested in how others go about selecting funds. With 100s to choose from what criteria do you apply for selecting the funds?
As someone new to investing my strategy so far is to select funds with strong performance over a number of years (5-7) and/or based on fund managers that have a good track record of beating the market over a number of years. I know that past performance is no guarentee of future performance.
I will then try to meet the asset allocation I decide on at the start. I also looking to cover a range of sectors and large/medium companies.
I have so far selected the following funds, Lindsell Train Global Equity and CF Woodford Equity Income. I have also identified a few other funds which I may invest in (Fundsmith Equity, AXA Framlington UK Mid Cap, Global Equity Rathbone Global opportunities).
How many funds should I look to invest in?
I'm predominantly looking to invest in managed funds. Is it worth also investing in a tracker funds?
