I would go for something Korean.

Not as nice to drive as some Japanese or European small cars but reliable.

    This was on Autotrader.

    Under £700.

Insurance via Compare the Market or Confused.com.

Select one of the cheaper policies, have a BlackBox fitted of it will mean saving money.

Don't put the insurance on a 21 month interest free deal as you are unlikely to pay it back in time and as said you have to pay another Insurance in 12 months, just pay a small deposit and pay the rest monthly.

Of a car is going to make your life easier then buy one, it is a simple as that.

Avoid the KA at the age as they are often liabilities either full of rust, full of blob or have been hammered into the ground by a succession of young drivers.

It sounds good on paper but I know one person who owns a 12 year old car that is very low milage for its age and the same owner from new. It has been driven with the engine light on for as long as I can remember and has only had 1 service on the last 5 years + !!!. That was only done because I offered to do it for them for free because of how overdue it was.

That's true. I recently got rid of a 12 year old KA which I had bought brand new back in 2003. It had 40,000 on the clock and was a great car but had no service records (OH did it) and basically the back end had to be welded back on at its last MOT!

If you just want a car to go to gym classes:
1] Give up gym and take up walking/running/power walking ... starting from home.
    2] Get a bicycle.
    3] Get a moped/scooter.

I can't see the point in transferring your 0% overdraft to this 0% credit card, you will probably end up paying a transfer fee for the privilege.

If you really want a car, I would suggest you save up for it. You could leave the 0% overdraft at its current level and put the £138 per month you were going to pay towards the credit card into a savings account. In 12 months, you'll have enough to pay for the car and insurance outright.

If you want a reality check on this, why not post your query on the Debt Free Wannabe board. I'm sure you'd get plenty or real life experiences of why the idea of putting it all on the credit card is not such a good idea.

was thinking the same. Sounds a bit counter intuitive to get a car in order to drive to a gym to keep fit. :)

You can buy a 15 year old KA with nearly full mot for less than £500. Buy one like that and run it until next mot. Not just KAs but lots of old user cars out there you can do just that with, you just need someone that knows cars that can tell the difference between just that and a lemon

Hey thats good to know - I dont have a clue about cars! It would be great to have a little run a round for a year. My dad does know a lot about cars but he feels I should be getting an expensive car. Although he doesnt understand that I cant afford it - he isnt very good with money! I'll remember that when my overdraft is paid off :)

When daughter passed her test i said i will buy the car and she pays the insurance, at the time she was commuting into the city so couldnt use it to commute it would have cost way too much for the parking.

Paying nearly £2 insurance for a car that she would use rarely didnt make sense to her, maybe its just the thought of spending her own money? Whe is not used to that :)

It would have cost way more than a travel card.

People just add up the commute mileage and add a little extra, when my sister passed she would think nothing of getting up and driving to the seaside for the day. The mielage soon rackes up and then credot cards took a hold and she has never recovered. Trashed credit file and can only get credit at high APR rates.

Got caught myself to some degree, but luckily managed to sort it out.
