How long after Best Before Dates would you keep and eat tinned food?
I've just cleaned out the corner cupboard and found an embarrassing array of tinned food - most is BB 2013 and a few go back as far as 2011 and 2008.
I don't want to chuck them unnecessarily. Neither do I want to plan a meal only to find I open the tin and it's inedible.
What are your thoughts?
TIA

As long as the tin isn't blown or showing signs of damage then I would use them . Tinned foods last for everLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I would chuck all of them. The problem is that over time, metal can dissolve into the food. So, even if they might taste ok, they can contain high concentrations of dissolved metal which won't be good for you.
Yours are pretty old anyway.
Chuck and put it down to experience. Then institute a better system for making sure food doesn't go to waste.0 -

I had a tin dated 2001 over the weekend. tasted as it should. open it an see and smell it. x0

I recently made beans on toast and didn't notice until after we'd eaten it that the tins were dated 05/2014. They were fine though.
Evaporated milk, on the other hand, goes off after a while. It changes colour and tastes wrong.0 -

Personally, I would use them - assuming they smell and taste OK.0 -
What are the tins? I'd have less of a problem eating bb peas for example, than I would rice pudding due to the milk.0

Would depend what it is. Anything like tinned grapefruit or baked beans I wouldn't risk, things that are acidic or have vinegar in. When you open tins you're advised to decant any unused contents into a non-metallic bowl because of the potential for chemical reactions with the metal once the contents are subjected to the air.Make £2025 in 2025

A relative of mine worked in a supermarket when it was being refitted and tins of force dated from the war years were discovered, this was in the 80s. They were given to the staff and everything was totally fine.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
