Pace SKY box

Hi, I have a Pace sky box and it keeps turning itself off after about 6 hours, which is not good if you need to record something. I called a local repair centre and they said it was cheaper to buy an new one. Is this right or does anyone know why it turns itself off. Please help

  • Is it a new(ish) sky plus box with the Anytime system on it? If so, the only time it should switch itself off is after 2 hours inactivity after 23:00 at night (to download the Anytime content). You could try and refresh the software on the box by powering it off at the mains, pressing and holding down the backup button on the front of the box and powering back on. Keep the backup button pressed in until all lights on the front of the box come on. Your screen should display something like 'Downloading new system software, do not disconnect digibox from satelite feed or mains supply'. The download is complete when the box re-boots and switches itself off again.

Otherwise, would suggest purchasing a new one from eBay (approx. £80 for a Sky+ box), you will need to contact sky to get your current card 'mated' to the new box though.

Edit: It should also be noted that the sky+ box should still record when in 'stand-by'.

Edit2: If not a Sky+ box the above software download process will still work and is worth a try.
  • Thanks for your really quick reply. I do have a sky plus box, should have said so in the first place. I will try what you have suggested and see what happens.
