Car insurance issues-can you help me?!

Well this inflexible prat of an organisation has left me in a real Catch 22 situation, deliberately leaving me the risk of my three cars being left uninsured.
I think that might be an exaggeration...I'm off driving to Italy leaving around the 13th/14th April. Back around May 5/6 (pensioners are flexible). My Admiral multi-car policy is due for renewal on May 2nd, while we still be travelling.
You did, I'm sure, know that your insurance was expiring while you were away when you booked the trip, and when you decided not to just renew with Admiral?Being a very responsible motorist, I contacted Admiral to ask them to help make sure my renewal notice reached me before we left, as I obviously would not be home to receive it and pay them. To cut a long story short they have totally refused to do this
Probably not a great surprise - they can't guarantee any renewal price too long in advance.there's no way they'll comply fewer than 21 days before the renewal date.
Not necessarily a problem. You leave 18 days before your renewal. They have also refused to confirm my long-standing no-claims bonuses (17 years in this case)
Because, of course, you may claim between now and expiry.
B'sides, anything over about 7yrs makes no difference.I have obviously re-insured -- with AXA
Over a month in advance? I'm surprised.but they won't validate my new insurance without proof of NCB.
And they won't be flexible about waiting for that proof? Even for less than a week?
Nobody able to visit your property while you're away, check for post from Admiral, and forward the renewal to AXA on your behalf? Admiral won't email it to you while you're away, to forward to AXA - even as an interim? So I'm left en-route to and from Italy with no insurance in place. It seems I may have to cancel, losing paid-for ferry crossings and pre-paid-hotel bookings.
Not at all. There's a dozen other ways to skin the cat.
If Admiral will match AXA's price - or even get close to it - then you're sorted, and you can move away from them in a more orderly fashion next year.
If they can't, won't - or you just refuse to deal with them any more (can't blame you) - then, if it comes to it, take out a new policy with zero NCB, then cancel it on your return - or provide the NCB proof for a partial refund. Will the other vehicles be on the road while you're away, or on private land? You could SORN them before you go, not bother insuring them until you return, then re-tax them, so you only need to do that with the vehicle you're going in.0 -
Just cancel your admiral policy now; you will then get your NCB proof. Start your new policy with Axa from now and you can provide proof. It's that simple.
I'm no fan of Admiral but none of your problems are of their making. No insurer will issue you with proof of NCB for a policy that is not due for renewal, for the simple reason that you can still make a claim! All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Clearly it seems Admiral have a wee fan club. Couldn't possibly be staff????0

Admiral are pretty terrible. I especially like the way they still penalise you if you opt for a speed awareness course instead of points.
Police forces used to encourage motorists to do these courses on the basis that insurance would be unaffected, but had to stop due to admiral's stance. Also true of the other companies in that group eg elephant, bell etc.
It's even on their Wikipedia page under "controversy"
As for the OP's problem, could you not just get a month's temporary cover from somewhere?0 -
No loyalty then op.
Endsleigh really helped you out here.
Like it or not non-disclosure of incidents is a big deal with insurance. You fail to disclose and they recalculate your premium, so many insurers would have cancelled your policy! Big big hole then!
You complain, they then obligue by reducing the figure owed, very kind of them.
Lucky lucky lucky0 -

Everybody who points out the holes in your logic, and doesn't blindly agree 100% with you, must be a shill from the insurer.
Of course.
FWIW, I wouldn't give Admiral one penny of my money, ever. The Ryanair of insurers.0 -
I was reversed in to a month before renewal (dashcam
), after already making full payment for a new Aviva policy (allows 60 days prior to start date).
Called Churchill and notified them of the incident, informed them it was being settled privately and it was only a notification. They apparently entered it on a claim form, created in 'closed' status. Churchill told me I don't need to inform future insurers.
Once the car was repaired and I received the money from the other driver, I informed Aviva (because I'm paranoid obviously) and they told me they don't need to know about it, so they made no notes on my account.
NCB was still received and presented with no issues.
Regarding the topic of this post, will I still need to declare this to future insurers for 5 years?
Regarding Shiells post, can't a family member open your mail and send you a pic of the no claims cert? You can upload it on most insurer's websites.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

They ask for any collision you've been involved in, whether there was a claim or not. There is documentary evidence that you have been in one.0 -
Thanks Adrian, so what would you think the reason for Aviva not being interested or taking record would be? It didn't affect the premium at all, but some posts here suggest it should have.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0

Simple. They don't think it affects your risk.
Other insurers may disagree.
If you tell an insurer, and they don't think it affects your risk, then there's no issue.
If you don't tell an insurer, and they would see it as affecting your risk, then there's a BIG issue.0
