Changes for Learner Drivers?

According to my driving instructor there are a number of possible things that may soon come into force, many of them completely stupid; suggestions include:
-making learner drivers have 50 hours experience before allowing them to take their test
    -upping the age to 18
-restricting the amount of passengers new drivers are allowed to drive with after a certain time

How these would be monitored I couldn't say, and in the end none of this would reduce accidents since it's not the age of the person that controls how they drive, it's the person themself.

As well as this, the driving theory test has just been raised in price due to the addition of more questions, next year the price of the practical test will be raised by a massive £8 to £56 meaning people will be paying out almost £150 on their provisional license and to tests without even considering a single lesson, copletely rediculous!!!

I assume that learners won't have to take lessons for a year as of January then, as instructers would know this(?). Although 50 hour long lessons isn't far off 1 a week for a year!
I was going to purchase a bundle inc. tests & 40 lessons so I may just have to bump it up to 50! Atleast i'll have time to save.

Panic over, thanks for your help!!

Do you have any official references for this? I can only find a site which calls it a false rumour.

It was a recomendation in a white paper (a government discussion document) so it may or may not come to pass
  • As Andy L says in the post above. This is all speculation at the moment and all, some or none of the suggestions may be enacted by the government.

Much of it will do nothing to improve road safety, as those that want to act like tos*ers will still do so whether they are 17 or 18 and had 2 or 200 lessons. The sooner the government understand how your average !!!!!! head's brain works the sooner they may address the problem rather than trying to penalise and tar everyone with the same brush.

And before anyone asks I'm well past any age that would be affected by these suggestions, so have no personal axe to grind with them. But, someone needs to stand up for the sensible kids who get penalised because the government are not capable of sorting out the idiots.

I must admit I would be wary if my son was travelling far, but he only needs it locally and the one time he could use the dual carriageway bypass, he uses the "old road" which is through a couple of villages more suited to 30 mph lol.

wobbling along doing 30mph on main roads is dangerous, when i was 16 i got myself a 50cc bike, i got very bored with doing 30mph everywhere, getting blown into the kerb by speeding cars etc, so i went to my local scrap yard & bought a 100cc engine that fitted my bike, i was racing about at 70mph in no time :D totally illegal but great fun!
