Nationwide Select 19.9%

in Credit cards
Morning
The fluff on the Nationwide website shows the select card at 15.9% on £1,200 with 12 month interest free. I put my details into thir soft search (go through the application but dont confirm) and they were offering me £5,500 at 19.9%. From reading the threads 19.9% is a decline pretty much and as there was no mention of 12 month interest free I decided to not go ahead.
I have a Santander 123 CC that is coming to the end of its 12 month fee free period at £3,200 (maxed out to stooze on the offer) so I was just going to pay that off and get a new card but I dont want a decline on my file for a credit card as that will make it harder for other applicaitons that I need to make if it does decline. I dont want the full £5,500 either, especially if I wont be getting the 12 months interest free.
So my questions are:
A) Is 19.9% actually a decline from people who have applied with this offer of interest (it doesnt matter as it will be paid off in full every month when the interest is applied)
If it doesnt offer the 12 months interest free in the we can offer you section do I get it as part of the card anyway as a given
C) If I lower the card amount (im more than happy at £3,200 again) will it improve my chances and lower the rate or not?
D) Do I need to pay off and close my Santander aco!!!! so it doesnt look like I have £3,200 long term debt to make them feel a little bit shaky - Im not interested in BT.
Thanks in advance.

A common misunderstanding/assumption! The outcome of a search is not recorded...only the search itself.fromtheshires wrote: »...I dont want a decline on my file for a credit card as that will make it harder for other applicaitons that I need to make if it does decline.0 -
I bank with Nationwide and have applied for the card on two occasions.
The first occasion it was a quote of £1000 and 15.9%. Result = DECLINED
Second occasion a quote of £2000 and 19.9%.
Result = APPROVED
I'd assume with £5500 in the quote you would be accepted, if you don't need that much select a lower limit which will give a higher chance if acceptance.
From my experience I would say the limit given is a better view of acceptance with £1000 or lower being an almost certain decline.0 -
The 15.9% is a typical APR that is shown for illustrative purposes, also the card has flexible APR as most do now depending on your credit profile and nationwide credit scoring.
The soft search won't impact you nor will one failed application no credit provider sees a decline.
You will get the 12 months INT free as long as you've not had s card in the last 12 months.
You could try lowering the limit but doubt it will impact the result. Credit providers keep such processes secret for obvious reasons.
Try MBNA they have good offers and do a soft search that is accurate going off my own and other posts. Good luck

Ah, thanks for that YB, I just assumed it showed as a decline on my report. I may as well lower the limit to what I want it to be at and apply later on tonight when I get back from work.
Thanks guys.0
