ipad battery running down fast.

Options
My ipad is less than two years old. I monitor the battery frequently but yesterday was surprised to find it flat for the first time ever. I gave it a full charge, used the ipad for less than ten minutes, had a five min skype and today it shows 26%, which surprised me, if anything would have expected to see 80%+.

I have removed/deleted recently added webpages from home screen and some rarely used apps and put it on charge again. Once it shows 100%, I will leave it in sleep mode, something I have always done, rarely switching off, and watch what happens.

Have any of you experienced a quicker than normal run down of battery life and how was it resolved?.

No I hadn't, I am doing it now. Normally I update as soon as I'm advised to, but don't think a message came this time. Thanks Browntoa. My wife said we didn't skype yesterday so it may be that it ran down doing nothing.

PS, as an aside, some time ago I installed something that gives me a floating dot that allows me to do a screen shot (and other things to). I find it useful, but have noticed that this floating facility is now on my android phone screen so it must have synced over. I don't want it on the phone, but as I don't know what it's called, can't look for it to delete.

By the sound of it you have AssistiveTouch turned on. To disable it, go to your Settings app > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch and turn it off.

Also it could be one of those devices with faulty batteries.
I had same issue with my iPhone 5. And I checked online on Apple's site using the IMEI number it was eligible for free battery replacement.

Maybe try that and they might replace the battery. :)

Thanks to last two posts. That Assistive Touch rings a bell. I have made a note of it and will turn off later. As for possible battery fault, the fact that this has only just started running down fast, I'm thinking to myself, if the battery was at fault, maybe it would have shown up sooner, but will check later.

The reason I say later, is that it is now 100% charged up and I'm going to leave it in sleep mode and not use it. I shall check at 6pm and before bed then in morning to see if there is anything of note.

Try doing a 'soft' reset in case there are any process that are causing the issue. This reset won't affect your data. Hold the power and home buttons for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.

Make sure all your apps have been update via app store.

If you are going to be in an area without wifi (i.e travelling) then turn off wifi. The device uses battery as it will be constantly searching for a wifi signal.

Also turn off Bluetooth if you don't need it.

iOS 9.3 is definitely better in terms of battery life compared to 9.2.1 (as an example).

It might be worth turning off 'Background App Refresh' for the majority of apps installed on your iPad; the same goes for 'Location Services' (well expect for the likes of Find my iPad).

as much as I am itching to follow through your recommendations,I still aim to avoid touching the ipad for as long as I can. I've copied down your posts so won't forget.

    Oh, the irony.

My antivirus software is blocking that URL as it believes it's a phishing link!
