O/S Daily Tuesday 29 March 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now getting light, looks dull, dreich but dry, wind has died down loads too.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit as he’s on school hols.

Lunch yesterday was burgers with cheese, salad and chips, dinner last night was egg and bacon sandwiches for the menfolk, I had a couple of small pancakes made from leftover Yorkshire batter from Sunday. Dinner tonight will be LO’s - lamb re-heated in gravy, bubble and squeak, cauli/broc cheese and Yorkshires, need something that can cook whilst hairdresser is here, so we can eat quite quickly once she’s gone.

Back to work today, it’ll be manic – it always is after a bank holiday especially as we’ve been closed for 2 days, then have 1 April at the end of the week, I’m expecting this week and next to be a nightmare!

Yesterday we had a very chilled day – we didn’t get the gloss paint on DS1’s door but the weather here was so awful we couldn’t have the windows open, and gloss paint smells so strong, it’ll get done once we can have the windows open, it’s the only bit that hasn’t been done. DS1’s room is being decorated over the May Day bank holiday. We spent 3 days out of the 4 of the bank holiday decorating and are straight back to work today, so don’t feel we did too bad, especially as DH has early start this morning. When the menfolk were painting I was emptying drawers, sorted loads of paperwork, shredder has been going – and I’ve made a very good headway with the filing cabinet, everything is in it that should be, my desk and other drawers that were stuffed full of paperwork, old cheque books with all the stubbs in going back to 2003, emptied 2 drawers in our cabinet and now 1 drawer is practically empty, but not going to let it build up in the same way anymore, quite a few things have gone over to paperless, and I’m sure we don’t get as much paperwork through the post anymore, so have decided I’ll keep a tight eye on paperwork, if it’s not something we need to keep, it’ll be shredded straight away, I have started doing this already so most recent paperwork is what we need to keep, the problem was all the older stuff, sorted now though.

Keep safe and well x

    Have a good holiday Judi!

Back to school today, just till Friday then we finish for 2 weeks. Apart from doing a couple of loads of washing and getting them dried on the line I did nothing yesterday except watch the first series of Happy Valley!

The programme is set where my friends live (and where I was at the weekend), going to watch the second series on the i-player over the coming week or so. Strangely I didn't feel at all guilty about it, just wanted a rest!

    Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Hope back to work people do well, it's always a shock to the system after a double long weekend. Camelot, this holiday is certainly a weird one.

The sky was so clear last night all the stars were sparkling away. The day was oddly lovely too, bright sunshine, cold nippy wind and rain showers. My friends really enjoyed their cycle ride and came back all pink cheeked and glowing. I joined them for tea and chatter.

I'll take my car up to Oban for a new tyre later this morning. There were arrangements made for a friend to collect the new one instead but I've got a tyre pressure monitoring system on each tyre which needs installed so it's back to plan A.

Still no news from Australia, I'm anticipating some word later this week.

Food will return to normal this week too and I'll be glad of it. I cooked a piece of lamb breast yesterday and it's just not nice, very tough even after long slow cooking. Won't be doing that again even though I really enjoy lamb.

Well, the clouds look as if they are here to stay for the day! Thermals back out of the drawer too.

Happy Tuesday everyone and Bon voyage to those heading off on their jollies.

    Morning all,

Nice bright day here but very cold too, I have really enjoyed the three day break and have recharged my batteries, back to work today though and the children are on holiday so it will be busy, we have events on every day so it will be a quick week, and only four days too.

OH manages to drag the tree blocking the drive to one side and later on yesterday a lady came and knocked on the door asking if they could take it for their fire, her and her son are coming today with a chainsaw to clear it. I thought someone might want it, and it saves it going to waste.

DD is mainly at home this week, apart from Wednesday where she is at work, she is still working on her dissertation which has to be done in about 6 weeks I think, so she will mainly be doing that I think.

Something with chorizo for dinner, might do a chicken and potato thing, will see, if not it might be a pasta.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all. A miserable start here but we do have sunny spells forecast, in among the showers! When is it going to get a bit warmer, I am so fed up of cold weather! JUDI I hope it picks up a bit for your holiday.

GERS I hope you hear something soon. The waiting for news from Melbourne must seem endless.

Well, after my gluttonous ways over Easter, shovelling down mountains of Easter eggs, choccies and other goodies, I am full of remorse and jumping back on the BSD wagon, with my head hanging in shame! No doubt I have put back on the little bit I managed to lose last week, but I am avoiding the scales! This time I am putting more thought into it and will meal plan and STICK TO IT!!! I still have an avocado in the fridge, so that's my brekkie with a poached egg! I'll get off to a good start!

Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Much colder here today but at least the wind has died down a bit, only real casualty we had was part of the trellis came away. It's a piece that screens the garden and have trained two types of honeysuckles up it so their weight probably doesn't help. DOH did a patch up job but we will need to get some new wooden batons at some point.
Back to work today but off again tomorrow. TA another one here who needs to be good this week after the amount of choc I shovelled down yesterday, the rest will be tucked away out of sight until I can trust myself to ration it. Don't want too much of a Thelwell moment Polly :rotfl:
Hope everyone has a good day whatever you are doing, take care folks x

Hubby has been dropped at work, I've bought some fresh rolls so I'll make his lunch in a sec and take it up to him.

My living room is sparkling, I dragged everything out yesterday and cleaned the floor and skirting's etc, I even cleaned the French doors inside and out.

I need to go and buy fish food later and maybe some new plants for th tank.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good Morning all and my 'morning mile' done and dusted.Sunny here but still a cold wind blowing.

Had a nice meal with DD and family last night at the local Brewers Fayre ,on the way home it just sheeted down with torrential rain.Weather really is most peculiar at the moment. Fingers crossed so far can't see any damage to my house ,but both my neighbours have lost parts of their fences with the winds. Coffee morning at U3A this morning and quiz night tonight so normality is resuming after the hustle and bustle of Easter.Almost the end of the month and apart from a cucumber its about all I have to buy foodwise this week.I am away for a week next month so I am using up what I have in the fridge at the moment Nothing else required at the moment
Hope you all have a good day,it will whiz by this week as its Tuesday already :):):)
    Cheers chums

    Morning :hello:

I've been very lazy over the past few days, especially with food. I'm feeling it today, must get back to proper food and I really should unglue myself from the sofa :D

The weather has calmed down, it's a bit drizzly but no wind. Hopefully we'll have a decent length walk this morning, we could both do with it.

A couple of weeks ago I sorted the DVDs I want to keep, no-one else has bothered to look through them. I'm sick of them cluttering up the lounge so I'm going to do it myself – no doubt I'll get moaned at later :D I want to rearrange the furniture a bit so I'll give it all a good clean as I go, might even remove books from shelves instead of just dusting around them :D
