Hi team MoneySavingExpert,
RE: EZY8818 Tel Aviv to London Gatwick (Ended up at EMA - East Midlands) - 27/March 2016
Departure 20:45 Sun 27th Mar
Departed 21:49
DIVERTED
Arrival 00:10 Mon 28th Mar
Arrived 01:46
My Flight was diverted to East Midlands as the Pilot was unable to land due to poor weather/wind.
Once we cleared Passport Control, there was lack of information and the easyJet agent present was struggling with the numbers present.
We were given the opportunity to check into Hilton (paid for by easyJet) but had to make our own travel arrangements to get there OR make our own arrangements to get back home and claim costs back.
The Following is from easyJet website:
Due to the weather in London Gatwick your aircraft has diverted to East Midlands airport. As the weather is not set to improve we will be arranging hotels to accommodate you for the rest of the evening. Unfortunately due to it being the bank holiday weekend we are unable to source transportation for you today. We therefore ask you to make your own transportation arrangements back to London Gatwick today. Please keep hold of any receipts to claim back through our customer services team. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to your journey today.
I decided to take the train back home to Croydon London, rather than stay the night due to the lack of clarity on what would happen.
05:11 East Midlands Parkway - 06.49 London St Pancras Intl
07:13 London St Pancras Intl - 07:53 East Croydon
I had family at Gatwick Airport awaiting my arrival who had also paid the extortionate parking prices.
My query is what am I entitled to claim for?

you are entitled to the fare on the train back to Gatwick.
As long as you have the relevant receipt it should be straightforward.

..........perhaps you would have preferred the pilot to land sideways just as not to inconvenience you.0

The problem was clearly not the fault of Easyjet, so no compensation is due. However, you were entitled to "care" which was offered, and to transport to your final destination (your train fare).
Sounds as if Easyjet handled this correctly: despite your concerns about lack of information they actually told you everything that was relevant.0
