If your shopping at Tesco anyway- some of us don''t have a lot of choice of stores- then why not collect the points. As it is a loyalty card for tesco you can't expect to get points for shopping elsewhere although there are sometimes special offers for other suppliers.

You can however use your points to buy vouchers for other traders.

1 point for spending £8 outside Tesco is better than nothing.

    Thanks for (most) replies.

Some useful comments and question answered regarding the points!

I find it easier to work with a current account.
I only have the money that is in it. It updates in real time. And there's no cross over periods of billing periods.
    It just suits me better.

    But thanks for replies!

Quite!! I recently purchased an iPad so spent £480 which netted me 60points or so. Not to be sneezed at!

Generally, a current account is no different from a CC in terms of updating. All depends on the retailer and the bank.

With a CC paying 0.5% cashback you would have netted £2.40, but there are CCs paying 1%.

Or with Halifax credit card you'd have got £5. To me it just seems like you can get the best of both worlds with a credit card alongside interest paying current account

Get MS Money, enter ALL your spends for ALL accounts
and you will know how much money you will have /or not in the future.

I do not work for MS Money, it's just many years ago we never knew how much money we had until I loaded this program.
Never paid any interest or late payment fees since.

So any opportunity I try to spread the word :)

Can I ask, which Halifax credit card gives the £5 reward. I looked on their site and couldn't see any mention of it. Is it a current card or one they no longer do?

I have a Halifax Reward Current Account and if I can find a credit card paying the same I would have one also.

Clarity I believe. You need to spend £300 per month and that gets you £5. So better than 1% if you spend right

It wouldn't make a difference if you did. MS Money has been free since 2005 and you can still download it for nothing. I've used since 1994 and would also highly recommend it

Halifax don't make it easy to find:mad:

However, I've had one since September last year. Its basically a Clarity Card and if you fulfil the Rewards T&C, which I do:), they credit the statement with £5 each month

    Here's Martin's link to it.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/best-credit-card-rewards#halifax

This is all I can find on Halifax website - scroll down to 11
    http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/help-guidance/terms-and-conditions/clarity-card/?srnum=1

I played safe and paid at least £1000 (instead of the minimum £750) into my Halifax Rewards current account for about 3 months before applying for the credit card. It worked fine for me and they gave me a limit of £4k as opposed to my request for £2500.

I use it a lot abroad and the exchange rate is reasonable. The £5 a month on a spend of just over £300 is a nice bonus:)

    Good luck
