Failed Online Job Questionnaire

Options
Hello :)

I'm really getting to my tethered end...

Today I applied for a part time job at KFC (Previous job role has been in successful sales management roles) I'll work no matter what to help provide the nicer things in life for my 1 year old daughter.

So I have been applying for various roles in retail and sales in the local areas (I was made redundant 18 months ago) and most of them have been all online questionnaires.

I keep on failing them despite the career experience I have and length of service. No feedback or anything. I have even resorted to picking up the phone and calling these companies as well as going into the retail units and even though the management say they would employ me based on first impressions they state that it's out of their hands and it's all to do with head office.

This is really debilitating. :(

I have no idea how retail works as I've never done it but cant you look at other types of jobs too? Maybe its an omen of sorts, expand your horizons. Good luck

But don't those online job questionnaires assess how suited to the job you are?

Sounds like you just aren't suited, or haven't researched what they expect.

If you've previously worked in sales management, I'd say you're probably wasting your time applying for part time jobs in the likes of KFC. I'd say you're not what they're looking for. I'd imagine they're paying minimum wage, so will want somebody younger and cheaper. You're over experienced, and I know you are desperate for any job you can get. I understand that, having been there. But the employer will see your past experience and think you're going to leave them the first chance another sales management job comes along with higher pay than they're offering.

I'd even go as far as saying some of the online tests could be filtering you out for that reason. I know I had no bother getting through the supermarket online tests years ago. Then I got a job in IT sales, and never passed an online test after that. They're looking at your previous salary, or guessing what level they think it might be. I spent loads of time applying for entry level roles and it was a waste of time. I found when I applied for 'better jobs', I had a far better rate of getting interviews. Its the quality of what you apply for, not the quantity of applications you send out

If it's a competency based test they're not looking at any of that, the system is not nearly that sophisticated. It's a simple case of giving the right responses to the questions, demonstrating that you can work in a team, show good customer service skills etc.

Ask Google 'How to fill in online KFC job questionaire'. Might work for other companies too.

I feel for you OP - it's tough out there but I agree with others that you might be underselling yourself. Why do you want to work for KFC? I googled the questions and they seem pretty easy to read to me as KFC want 'can do' people who are compliant and have a strong work ethic as well as being the personality type who goes out of there way to help others.

In a previous life I have coached on recruitment issues and I'd be happy to help you online with any applications should you feel it's a good idea for you. Just PM me and we can talk about things. Just don't get to despondent.
  • I have been apply for part time roles as I'm a single father.

I'm guessing you don't really go to KFC.

I took a competency based questionnaire in the past for B&Q (a long time ago, I hasten to add) and I also failed because it suggested I wasn't suited to work in a Retail environment.

If that's the case I wouldn't have been in a front-facing customer service role for the best part of 12 (nearly 13) years!

As daft as it sounds I wonder (given your previous work experience) you'd be too qualified for the positions on offer at KFC.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
