Wood Framed house

My wife has just been to visit a friend who lives nearby
She evidently has a problem with her house "MOVING" in strong winds and screws and othet fixings "popping out of ceilings" - due to the house structure being Wood framed
I have never heard of wood framing for modern homes ?
This is an approx 10 year old house...

Timber frame is common - but a house blowing in the wind indicates a huge problem!! Is it a developer house? What kind of cladding is on it?
Have never heard of a house moving in the wind because it's timberThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This is not because it's a timber framed house. It's because whoever has built it hasn't built it properly. Timber frames are perfectly acceptable.0

It is not that I was doubting anyone - but I was not aware that timber framed houses were built these days - especially standard two up / two down - terraced houses !!Smiley_Dan wrote: »This is not because it's a timber framed house. Huh? Yeah, they are definitely built now. In many ways they are superior to block builds. But UK building is very conservative, as is the buying market, so not as popular as it should be.0

Watch Grand Designs, I would say about 50% of houses built on that programme are timber frame.
I think I would like to go timber frame if I could build my own. I love the way the frame is both structural and decorative.
I don't think your friends house should move though, and screws popping out is certainly a warning sign!

Very few are both structural and decorative. In the vast majority of timber framed homes the frame is purely structural and hidden away out of sight.0 -
I have seen many oak framed houses on the programme where the oak frame is very much a visible feature inside the house.Gloomendoom wrote: »Very few are both structural and decorative. In the vast majority of timber framed homes the frame is purely structural and hidden away out of sight.
This is probably not common in more simple construction though.0
