Worthwhile asking lender for new check after refusal?

Hi,

After having been refused a credit card with Barclays I've decided to check my credit file. I was probably naive to think that, despite having an almost 2 year old mortgage my file was all correct.
Anyway, to my surprise my credit score on Equifax was very poor. This was due to them not finding me on the Electoral Roll. 1 week or so after emails and phone calls it stands at Good and will, perhaps, jump to excellent.
My question is: is it worthwhile calling them again and ask them to check again my file? Or perhaps I should just take my chance at another bank?

  • Why don't you try the Barclaycard eligibility checker as that will provide you with a indication without harming your credit file as it is only a 'soft' search.

    Your application and credit scoring

It's Santander, not Barclays, but you can get the idea.
  • I did try a few soft search checks but the results were that I had 95% chances of getting a Barclays card... (that was the top one at least).
I also tried Barclays eligibility check but it says it can't find my details...
I have a fairly long name and it seems some systems (like Equifax) are not prepared to take those inputs. After quite a few calls back and forth with the council and Equifax, they (Equifax) admitted that they merged my last two surnames into one and as such queries weren't matched. Experian seems to have a (more) decent system though.
My hope would be that by speaking to bank they world not rely a single automatic query and actually checked manually with the credit agency...
