External Storage Pool

Hi
I currently have an internal storage pool of about 9TB. I'm using Windows 10

I want to upgrade my PC but the ones I'm looking at are smaller towers and I don't think have as much space as the one I have now.

What I'm after is moving my current storage pool to an external storage pool like an external hard drive enclosure but one that will hold three or more hard drives.

What I have come across is the following

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Icy-Box-IB-545SSK-5-Bay-Channel/dp/B006BQYSFA

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Icy-Box-IB-555SSK-Channel-Backplane/dp/B002BLZ8TO

Am I on the right path, or is there better options out there.

I don't want a NAS or home server. Just a storage pool that is on an external enclose with its own power source and fax etc..

    pools , fax ?

you do NOT want to be playing about with external drives and presumably USB leads , you want a dedicated NAS drive

if you are insistent that you do not want a network drive , then I cannot suggest anything

If your against a NAS, I'd go with a storage tower with miniSAS interface, you'll need a cable and PCIe card for the SAS link.

Not sure all versions of Windows 10 support SAS, esp. Home Edition.

If your upgrading your comp anyway you could also look at thunderbolt storage, although tbh it wont be cheap as these devices are usually marked to the high end crowd.

or you could get a case like this http://www.fractal-design.com/home/product/cases/node-series/node-304-black tiny case but can still store 6hdds fill it with 6tb drives and you can have 30tb of internal storage..

    *edit
Just thinking about it 9tb isn't really a lot these day given you can get single 8tb drives, it might be worth just replacing your existing drives with newer ones...

If you don't need (or want) a NAS device, why not just get a larger case for your PC so you can fit all the drives inside?

Since your existing PC has room for the drives, can you use the old case with your new machine?

You need a modem to get a fax, I didnt see any NAS boxes with an old modem when looking. but i didnt look at that many so there maybe one..

Mind you where do you get a modem from these days? Ive got loads of the things tucked away in a box with some obscure video cards. voodoo extreme or 3D blaster anyone? :)
