Anglian Water unpaid

I have a Halifax Reward account. I receive a £5 bonus each month. The balance is nil because I earn no interest. One of the conditions is that I have two direct debits. I transfer £14 each month on 21st to pay Anglian Water on 22nd each month. This has worked well for a while.
I received a letter from Halifax today saying that Anglian Water tried to collect £18 this month. Therefore it was "returned" i.e. not paid. I contacted the bank and they said there would be no charge for this from them. The bank also said that Anglian Water will probably try to take the money again three days later as this is common practice. On that basis Anglian Water will try to take the money again on Tuesday. Will this be a black mark on my credit report?

I registered for paperless billing last month. There is a new bill on there (I have just checked). It states that I will be paying £18 from 01/03/2016 until 01/03/2017.
Usually I would of got the bill through the post and reacted to it. Bad timing I to register for online billing I guess.0 -

I am usually meticulous about these things as I have three bank accounts to get the best interest rates.
The latest email I had was on 20/02/2016 to say that paperless billing was setup successfully. The latest letter I received was dated 21/02/16 stating that I will receive no more bills in the post. The new calculation is on my last bill and hence online.
Will they try to take the funds again 72 hours later as the bank suggested? I hope so as the bank think my credit score will be unaffected if this is the case.0 -
Why don't you just put a few pounds into your account to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen in the future?I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
If you register for online billing and they notify you by that method then that's sufficient I think to have met the direct debit guarantee. If they attempt to take it again and it's successful then that probably won't affect your credit file at all - I'd pop a bit extra in there in case it happens again - bills do sometimes rise at this time of year0

I contacted Anglian Water and they notified me that they will try again in three weeks. They said they only leave a black mark on the credit file if you are three months in debt.0
