I had a read of that thread from digitalspy, again there seems to be no consensus on what really works reliably.
Some have done the same as I did back in September, install IE 11 from a single download and that somehow kickstarts the updates.

The time to install the updates once you have them is getting ridiculous. I know the pc I was using is only an old AMD dual core with 4GB ram, but it took 6 +hrs to get to the first reboot.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I thought I would test this out on an older box, but no improvements:(

Checking updates time has been consistent at 2 hours.

First attempt - check for updates took 2 hours.

Installed the latest update agent, installed KB3102810 - check for updates still took 2 hours.

Saw the post on DS so tried installing KB3135445 - check for updates still took 2 hours.

I think it is Microsoft's way of punishing those of us that don't have automatic updates on and are not accepting the push to W10.

    Thanks for your persistence. :)
One of my attempts was to just let automatic updates run, after a couple of hours it had installed the latest Windows Update Agent.

Then nothing for several hours, when I gave up.
The latest WUA is the same file that I installed first, to save time :rotfl: in my final successful attempt.
    Move along, nothing to see.
