Seller refunded money without being asked and wants goods back

Sorry this is a bit complicated.
I saw some bath taps on ebay and as they matched some sink taps i already had i thought great, they will look good on the new bathroom i will be fitting.
The seller then said Ohh, sorry i have sent them to the wrong person.
I said, well presumably the person will send it back and the seller said "well ok then i will send it when it gets back and give you a partial refund when they do". So anyway i paid him, he then said he was sending them, he didnt give me any refund but i wanted them so good.
The thing is i had some matching bath taps on the old bath but as this needed 4 tap holes it meant the new bath had to be acrylic, these are the same style but only needed 2 tap holes so i bought a new metal bath.
The taps came and they were sink taps. The seller kept saying, No they are not, but i said they were identical to the sink taps and he kept quoting obscure measurements and insisted they were the bath taps. I found the actual dimensions from the manufacturer and they are sink taps so asked if maybe he had sent the bath taps by mistake to someone who wanted sink taps and we could swap. He said no but he would give me £5 off the price i paid as soon as i had left him feedback. So i said well i was now in a position where i had to keep the taps as i was a bit stuck and would have to use sink taps on my bath, but wasnt really intending to give him good feedback in the circumstances.
So he had a hissy fit, said he was sending the money back and i must send the taps back or else.
I dont like being threatened so i ignored him meaning to send part of the money back in a bit, i didnt want him to think i was giving in to his threats. i dont know why he sent the money back, i had said i now had to use them. He then sent another email saying he knows my address and he is getting the police involved.
Where do i stand with this.
I dont want to take the taps for nothing, i really only ever wanted to pay the full price for the taps he said he was selling.
I am now stuck with these which is not ideal. But i hate being threatened and i dont know what i am obliged to do in the circumstances. I had never asked to send them back for a refund, he twice offered to give me a partial refund, the first time he didnt and i just left it. The second time he said only if i gave him good feedback and i said i didnt intend to do this so he sent the money back and insisted on having the taps back.
I would like to now ignore him for a week or so and then send him the rest of the money back minus the refunds he promised.
Does that sound right to you?
Thanks for any thoughts

Complain to EBay .0

I would open a case with eBay return the taps and get your money, it's a lot of grief over something you don't even want.0

Tell the seller he is only to contact you through the case.ignore any other communications. Do put his threats so far in the case. he's not allowed to give you a refund conditional on feedback, you can report him for this too. You should have to pay to return.the goods are significantly not as described0

Open a SNAD case on eBay and ask for the seller to pay return postage due to it being the wrong item.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I think that is a typo.
In a normal SNAD eBay will force the seller to pay for the return or they will send you a label.
If (as I suspect is the case) you have the refund already then you must offer to return the taps. Tell the seller you require a label to return them.0 -
Yes I meant to put shouldn't have to pay0

I am afraid I am embroiled in an ebay case where the seller sent the right item, but damaged and improperly packed (big box, no packing inside box, part of item too large for box even so and sticking out).
I have been told by ebay I have to pay return postage. Its a big item so going to cost quite a bit. Even sent them photos of the box as it arrived. I won't be buying off of ebay again (after years of using it).
So I would agree on returning it, yes you didn't want the item, yes you don't like the threats but this is going to just get you in more hassle with ebay. Report trader for trying to influence your feedback, they will do something about this. But I'm afraid unless the seller agrees to pay for the return postage, you will have to pay. Maddening, but I've argued myself blind with ebay.
I don't know how ebay can get away with it, but I seem to be getting no where arguing that its against distant selling rules.
This is part of the ebay message:
[FONT=Arial, Verdana][FONT=Arial, Verdana][FONT=Arial, Verdana]As such, I hope you can understand that returning the item back to the seller is the buyer’s responsibility, including postage cost, unless an agreement has been reached with the seller. In some circumstances, sellers may refund buyers for return postage. You must contact the seller directly to possibly negotiate this additional refund (sellers are not obliged to accept such agreements).

Firstly, you are not buying from Ebay, so 'distance selling rules' do not apply to them.deannatrois wrote: »I don't know how ebay can get away with it, but I seem to be getting no where arguing that its against distant selling rules.
Secondly, 'distance selling rules' only apply to business sellers.
From your other thread it looks like your seller is a private individual, not a trader.0 -
So do you want the taps or not?
Your in a great position here now you've had a refund. If you don't want them then tell the seller to arrange collection at your convenience then ignore his threats - police won't be interested.
If you want them then send some money back less the promised goodwill refund and laugh at him0 -

Someone on your other thread questioned a seasoned poster giving a post which was ranty and strayed OT. Now you seem to be hijacking other threads. Your post count suggests you should know better.0
