Friend at risk of redundancy - rights?

Hi there

a friend who works for an investment bank has been told she is at risk of redundancy over a month ago. She has been there less then 2 years and has been given a month (consultation period) to raise any questions about the redundancy and also to look for a suitable internal position, after the month is over she would be told if the redundancy is confirmed. She raised questions about the redundancy to which the HR department took their time but eventually answered, however she kept questioning them and so the month is up about a week ago.

Given the month was up a week ago why havent they told her about the outcome of the consultation period? what rights does she have given only less then 2 years service?

thanks

I think you already know the answer. Unless a dismissal falls under a small number of categories, she had no rights at all before two years. They can dismiss for any reason or none at all. The fact that they have actually gone through a process suggests that they are being " proper" and doing the right thing. They could have just handed her her notice.

And the only people who can tell you why they haven't got back to her is them.
